Fatal accident on i-44 in MO involving 2 School buses suv and tractor.

I don't even know how this is possible.

My guess is the suv was tailgating and had to stop short and obv is no match for a 35k lb bus which pushed it up and over the catch of the tractor and then subsequently crushed it.

The 2nd bus was too close as well.

Too many people not paying attention and not following DOT guidelines, this is why you don't follow closely.

So far 2 are dead, one child.

The buses were headed to Six Flags.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the families.

Yea it really turns my stomach.

I hate things like this that are clearly avoidable.

Its hard to make out but i believe that SUV is bent like a perfect U.

Yeah, it is. If you look hard enough, that thing is bent right in half. No way anyone survived that. Im betting the 2 deaths were occupants of the SUV.

I thought i read someone say they heard the T/T had a blowout and the SUV reacted to that and then the buses reacted to the SUV and...this happened.

Well they said one death was a child, which could have come from the SUV.

I tend to say that no one could live through that in the SUV but there was a dude who had a tractor trailer colapse on his car and he actually got out of the car and walked away on his own once they lifted the tt off his car so ya never know.

Since there are no seat belts on buses the 2 deaths could easily have been kids on the bus or a driver.

And i could see that scenario playing out.

That is the main reason why i dont ride in front, behind, or alongside t/t.

I pass them and keep on going because theyre blowouts are strong enough to rip bumpers from your car and take your windshield out.

I had thought about the deaths being on one of the buses but after seeing that SUV...I dont know. Could be one child on the bus and one person in the SUV.

I've seen a few blowouts happen on the highway and it sounds like an explosion and then debris everywhere. It's scary stuff.

I never ever ever ever follow behind semis for possible blowouts, and the rock chips to the paint/windshield.

The driver of the truck died. He was a 19 year old college student.
One girl was killed on the first bus, most likely from the impact. She was 15.

One major injury was sustained, and that student is in stable condition. The rest have been released with minor injuries.



The details of exactly what happened are in the article as well. The big truck stopped unexpectedly, due to upcoming road work. The kid in the GMC truck hit him. The first bus tried to avoid it, but was unable to, and got hit by the second bus.


It's amazing only 2 people died. Sad, but at least it wasn't more! Ralphie is right... if people were following traffic laws more closely, I'm sure all deaths could have been avoided. Even if the accident still happened, it probably would've been less severe.

They were updating it continually as i posted it and at that time the article and CNN on tv only knew that 2 people died and not who, why, or how this happened.

Damn so it was as i expected.

SUV was following too close and couldn't avoid rear ending the tractor and the buses were too close as well. And that is the biggest insult, because the bus drivers should know better.

Be careful people.

Always leave yourself room especially in construction zones because you never know what can happen, a peice of road or a sign could fall out into traffic causing everyone to lock up.
