dilemma: buy a 91 CB Coupe w/ bad HG and fix or part out?

I found a CB7 on CL w/ a blown HG nearby. Guy said it has a blown HG and w/in 4 min overheats. Only wants 300 for it. Think it'd be worth doing and turning around to sell?

Its got no AC, but the body and interior are clean, clean title. Trans is Auto but shifts well. May need one tire but thats no biggie i can get one free at work practically.

What would be the bare minimum I'd need to do to get it up and running again?

I did a HG in the past to my current CB 2 yrs ago, back when I had an F22, and it wasn't that hard but I bought a bunch of random unnecessary things. So I know I've got the skill needed labor wise.

But those familiar w/ machine shop services, what would need to be done you think?

    What would you guys do?

yes exactly what i was thinking but i would just shave the head a lil to make sure its not warped, a new gasket set and get to work

you can get a gasket kit ebay, for $60 and includes the HG (metal)
i use those gaskets in every rebuild and yet to have any problems

the head i can get it resurfaced for $40

              water pump $50

and any other miscellaneous parts $100

im pretty sure you can get the car in running shape for less that $500

and it'll probably sell from1500-2100 depending on condition

flipping cars is a very easy way to make money, especially when you know the cars, everyone needs a car nowadays, i say take it, a cb for $300 is always good to buy

I got it! but one problem. It started perfectly fine in the morning at around 1030ish and when i went back to pick it up w/ the dolly an hour or so later, it would just crank and crank, sounded like no compression. I did hear it kinda burble out the exhaust wanting to start but no success.

Is there any other way to get the car on a U Haul tow dolly? I'll probabaly be doing this by myself mostly, maybe my mom would be in the car ready to slam on the brakes once its up there, but it'll be tough pushing a 3000 lb car up that incline. could I jack it up maybe on jackstands and then back the dolly underneath it? lol

So far, to get it driveable, I'll need two new tires, windshield is cracked, HG, I might as well do the valve stem seals too, engine has 180k on it. Interior is nice and minty, blue, car is white, no rust on the Q panels.

Coupe! but LX trim unfortunately. It might need a new door lock/power window module, neither of those work currently. Battery is dead also, lights are very dim, and I just found out the P/S mirror is barely hanging on, rearview is dangling, little tidbits here and there, nothing a trip to the Pick N Pull won't solve!

Well I'll first take it off and then have the machine shop inspect it, I did manage to start it just now, I'm thinking the main relay was the culprit earlier, since it was a lot hotter in the afternoon. With a new battery, it cranked on the second turn over. Trans seemed to shift perfectly crisp into reverse and drive w/ no bone jarring shifts so the motor mounts seem good also

yeah I'll get it inspected, chances are I'm probably going to have to mill the head a little bit, might as well do new valve stem seals too, the engine's got 180k on it

yeah I was planning on flipping it, when I saw that it started, I was like, this is gonna be CAKE, just a new head, fix things here and there and it'll be up and running in about two weeks, little by little.

But now for some PICS! bear in mind this is JUST how I got it, nothing's cleaned, tons of brake dust on the CD5 wheels. Coolant guts everywhere in the engine bay lol At least the body's in decent shape, no dented fenders or anything that bad.

^^found some cake batter mix under the driver's seat, in case I get hungry haha

^^brushed aluminum gauge trim and indiglo gauges! badass.

^^full size Nissan sentra spare, basketball pump brand new unopend and a vinyl banner of some kind. Oh yeah, some flip flops and sunblock also

^^Ricer muffler, doesn't sound that bad actually, just having the muffler axleback makes no tinny noises, LOUD but a nice loud haha

                    ^short ram intake, pre-modded haha

^^yeah, its gonna take some cleaning and maybe painting of the VC

^^duralast battery, sticker says 12/08 think its still covered under warranty?

Is this the kit you were referring to? its 54 bucks shipped now. Seems to come with a lot of things! MLS headgasket is good, just like OEM. And a lot of other gaskets which is nice.

bump need help in deciding which headgasket kit is best.

Autozone had some made by Felpro for 147, BAP imports had ones made by Rockauto for 151, Napa for 209 and Honda for 286.

As long as I get a good MLS headgasket set, on those no name Ebay ones, should last quite a while right?

but on a bad note also found these things wrong with it:

                          -cracked A1 manifold
                          -shot front and rear mounts
-jerry rigged tack welded p/s bumper support w/ plastic instead of metal bumper reinforcement
-all headlights and cornerlights and grill are aftermarket, so its been hit in front
                          -condensor is damaged
                          -cracked spark plug wire
-3 out of 4 spark plugs tore off when removing from cyl. head, the threads are stuck in there
-missing cam cap bolts on end of cyl. head

I still think I could get it running for under 7-800 reliably though.

a block can indeed warp, when you have the head off look at the cylinder for striping. if it does, then it means the cylinders are no longer round.
