Mondays adventure, WWII bomber crash site in NH (pics)

For some time now i wanted to check this site out, and since i have been a jobless susy homemaker for the past couple of weeks i decided i had the free time, so i saddled up and went. In 1942 a B18 bomber crashed on Mt. Waternomee outside of Lincoln, NH. IIRC 5 out of the 7 crew members were ok, and walked away  . It was kind of cool because the engines were all torn up so some cylinders were missing the head, some were a bit torn up, and some were completely intact. The landing gear had taken out a huge *** maple tree too, that was neat, and leading up to that was a huge debris field with melted metal, pieces of the airframe and all of the rocks had huge gouges in them from the landing gear bouncing off them. Heres pics:

    one of the engines

    connecting rod

    a piston

    one of the valves

detail of a valve spring, not bad for being exposed for like 68 years

    valve spring and stuff

piece of an electric motor i think

a chunk of aluminum that melted

toby checking out one of the wings

it was pretty creepy hiking up to it, but once i got there it was just cool as heck.

Sweet. I love bits of the past like this, great pics, they make me want to go see the site someday.

I gotta ask though, WTF word did you use to describe the maple tree?
        ...huge *** maple tree too,...

zach, it's too bad there's no fuselage left up @ camel's hump. just one engine i think, or a wing? can't remember, but there's not much left of that one either. both from the same era though i believe

lol, WW7 was a mother fucker!
The government sends out a ray that blocks memories of WW3-WW11 because they were so horrible we'd all go insane.
