anyways, i went an ordered one today. a friend of mine works at an att store, so he gave me the lowdown that theyre supposed to hide from customers. basically, it goes like this.
when you want a iphone, you must pay up front with a credit card ONLY. reason is, you get charged twice for the phone. you are charged the day you go and order the phone, that charge is, at some point, refunded... and a second charge is placed once the phone is shipped. BUT, sometimes there is an overlap of refund and 2nd charge, so for a short while there will be two charges on your account for the same phone.
now, what my friend told me is that they require cc only purchases because people dont consistently check their cc activity mid-statement. but they do monitor checking account activity. they are basically playing the odds that most of america wont notice the short-term double-charge because of that fact.
