so... att/apple are a bunch of f*ck holes!!!!

... BUT, i still want an iphone 4, so whatever.

anyways, i went an ordered one today. a friend of mine works at an att store, so he gave me the lowdown that theyre supposed to hide from customers. basically, it goes like this.

when you want a iphone, you must pay up front with a credit card ONLY. reason is, you get charged twice for the phone. you are charged the day you go and order the phone, that charge is, at some point, refunded... and a second charge is placed once the phone is shipped. BUT, sometimes there is an overlap of refund and 2nd charge, so for a short while there will be two charges on your account for the same phone.

now, what my friend told me is that they require cc only purchases because people dont consistently check their cc activity mid-statement. but they do monitor checking account activity. they are basically playing the odds that most of america wont notice the short-term double-charge because of that fact.

I think its authorizing and then capturing the amount.

Initially they will authorize the amount to the CC. That authorization will usually drop once the amount has actually been captured. It some cases, the authorization amount wont be dropped when the capture process has started. So in some cases, you'll see two payments!

But besides that, AT&T and apple still suck big fat rhinoceros dick.

        true on the first part.

You need a credit card because you are only allowed to buy 2 iphones. If you were to pay with cash there would be no paper trail of you purchasing anything.

also, this is not a new thing. there has been a 2 iphone limit since 2007.

Can you prove that they require a CC for that reason? Because that smells like BS.

Whats to say some one doesnt want in there with a black card that wants to buy five iphones?

          "Can I have five iphones?"

"I'm sorry sir we only take Credit Cards?"

          ???

I don't think thats justification enough to FORCE people to pay with credit cards.

thats exactly what i said. for a short amount of time, its possible for there to be a combined charge of $500+. thats bullshit. i checked on my account already. there is a charge for the full amount. its not "pending", its a completed transaction and the funds have been taken from my account. btw, i used my debit card, which is not normally allowed to "regular" customers. he even told me that he has turned away customers that want to pay with cash, etc... basically anything but a cc.

Sprint FTW. Paid cash for my tour half a year ago when it first came out.

Sprint service rocks my fucking socks off. The tour is good. Besides the track ball STICKING SOMETIMES.

                Its goddammed infuriating.

                  I found this:

                  No Cash Reversal

Maybe do the same in regards to the phone.

AT&T was good when they were Cingular....i had them back when.

Apple always sucked, as far as how they do business.

There is an interesting article in the current issue of Wired(great fucking zine)

Basically AT&T wanted Apple to trim down their phones to make up for the lack of service AT&T had i.e. not enough towers etc. Jobs said no, rightly so.

AT&T tried to call Jobs bluff and whined and complained about him not being a "true" partner when it came down to the problems that AT&T was having. Jobs said "its your problem, not ours". I agree with him on that as well, it is not fair to bring down Apple for shitty coverage.

Also mentioned is how when AT&T asked Jobs peeps to wear suits to executive meetings Job's replied, "Were Apple, we don't wear suits. Heck, we don't own suits"

LOL guess it's all turtlenecks for them.

It went on to say that Jobs has put a lot of research into marketing the iPhone with other carriers such as Verizon but because they use different technology and the chipset is a different size, they would have to build the iPhone from scratch. However, it said the Wall Street Journal reported that Apple was working on an iPhone that can work on multiple carriers.

                      Blah!

Anyway, yea this duo has sucked since 2007. Nothing new there.

I havent had too many issues with Verizon.

As a person who's had Cingular, T-mobile, twice, and Verizon, Id have to say t-mobile is the best. Phones werent top of the line but they were good nonetheless and their signal strength was awesome. Only signal issues i ever had were at my current house. We live in a valley and i got no tower signal so i was always running on wi-fi at home, which wasnt an issue, as it switched over automatically. Not to mention the customer service we got from them. Over our 5 years with them, we got free phones, 1000s(yes, thousands) of bonus minutes.

I, too, had Cingular back when they were just Cingular. Like '02/'03. I dont remember much other than the phone. It was the basic phone; gold and had a green screen. Coolest thing about it was the aftermarket covers and i could play "Snake".

The wifey and I are currently on Verizon. We both have DROIDs and so far, no problems as far as the company is concerned. We forgot to put me on as an account manager and with her being in Basic, i cant change anything, but we dont need to at the moment. Im having a minor issue with the phone, as far as deleting text threads, but its nothing major and it's the phone, not the provider.

Dr. Love, id suggest a DROID. So far, aside from not being an Elitist's tool, my DROID has done everything ive heard of an iPhone doing. I wasnt charged twice(which i think is absolutely ludacris) and i dont have to worry about my phone having antenna issues.

I do believe sir that we had the same phone. Cingular flip phone? Gold phone with black and green screen?

HOLY COW! I thought i was the only one with that phone. That was my first phone, until i was trippin on acid and a friend decided to push me into the ocean...bye bye phone lol.
