Lots was wrong with the VW. Transmission was leaking, rear main seal leaking, one brake line completely disconnected, 2nd gear synchro was crunchy, shifter bushings need replacing....

Should have kept the damn Honda!!

But hey, if I get the Mazda 3, I'll be super happy.
count yourself lucky that you didnt have crippling electrical gremlins like 99% of all other VW owners.

2 guys I work with have 3 sedans, and one is the identical twin of my car, minus being hatch. They both love them and highly recommended it to me before I purchased it.

As for the VW, there's so little electrical on a Mk2 that it's not that big of a problem. Mk3's are notorious for electrical. However, I'm stuck with this car for the next 5 years, so I'll be hopeing I don't get any Mazda gremlins.

It might. But this board seems to attract guys with Accords and turn it into a giant sausage fest, doesn't it?

yea well at least we fix our problems instead of crying about them and just getting another car.

yeah, well a 20 year old Volkswagen isn't exactly on my priority list to repair and live with every day and not spend more than what it's worth on repairs and mods.

I've owned 30 cars in 8 years. I've never paid more than $2200 for a vehicle out of my pocket. Nobody would help me buy a good reliable vehicle. I think in the past 8 years, I've spent around $50 000 on vehicles. And what did I have to show for it? A beat up 1991 Volkswagen that I traded a perfectly good and reliable Honda for.

Getting rid of that Accord was the biggest mistake I ever made.

i guess if money is an issue, im going to get the first gen but if i can find a 03+ for super cheap then im going to jump on it. those are more easily to be converted to the forester sti.

still going to keep my veedub though

I've always like the 1st gens myself. I'll own a Subaru one day. Wouldn't mind a Legacy wagon. RHD one would be sweet too.
