If I ever have to get an MRI, I will tell them I am claustrophobic...even if you are not, the meds will help you relax and stay still.

What meds do you speak of? Id consider myself a pretty chill dude and id like to think that i have abve-average self control but that shit was HARD. It's not just "laying still". Like i said before, unless they were over-exaggerating, they told me i couldnt move even the tiniest bit. And maybe i overreacted or took it the wrong way but i assumed that meant "even the tiniest little movement". And i figured it'd be easy but then as im laying there i start feeling my little toes wanting to just move or twitch. Then i feel it in my fingers and my neck and i start concentrating on things and i start having to tell myself not to move and start focusing on feeling every single part of my body and making sure it doesnt move.

It wasnt horrifying or life-changing but it wasnt as "easy" as i thought it would be. But im weird and i tend to overthink things and make them worse then they really seem, so maybe that was the case.

I had a MRI when I needed a triple bi-pass about two years ago. Really not too bad unless you happen to have some major stuff like me. Yeah it has a bunch of sounds and clicks and beeps and bops. What a racket!
I'm very claustrophobic and being in that tight tube was unbearable! Whats more is they put this "cage" around my head too! So after less than a sec.I was yelling! They took the cage off and put some towels over my eyes and it was OK.
Second time few days later....I was fine going in..but threw up once inside! LOL
Oh did I mention an Angiogram? It begins at the crouch!

my old lady can never get an MRI. she has a cochlear implant, which is basically a magnetic device surgically implanted in her head in order for her to be able to hear. if she had an MRI, the magnetic waves would literally rip her implant right out of her head and she'd have a hole in her head.....

I think they just give you ativan.

But I would not go in asking for meds or for one by name I would just say
"I get really nervous in tight spaces"

No they weren't over exaggerating. You cannot move at all because in doing so you could blur out the images. Once the images are blured they have to begin again. It is the same idea as diagnostic xray accept there is no radiation involved but you cannot move in those either. Its like taking a picture with a rewgular camera at a slow iso with no flash...blur is almost always a problem unless you use a tripod.

Those magnets are strong enough to lift one of our cbs off the ground. They are usually like 1 or 2 tesla. And the newer ones are stronger.

Hell yeah...they have to shield the room VERY VERY carefully...mostly to avoid interference...but also because of how strong the magnets are.

I heard a story about a dude cleaning the floor with a buffer (he was new) and took it into the room, he got within 5 feet of it and it sucked the buffer right to the machine, the guy took off. Another story, happened more than once, someone took an oxygen tank in and the tank flew off the floor and right into the machine...killed the patient

They also never shut the magnets off, the restart cycle is very very hairy, they use liquid helium and nitrogen to cool the coils...while starting the magnets back up, it is a long tedious process of carefully watching amps so nothing goes haywire...and if they do not watch the cooling gas, it could rupture and...well...kill all the techs in the room by suffocation.

                          amazing technology!!!
