    Warning about facebook

Josh made me remember to post this.

When you want to 'like' something, hover the mouse cursor over the link and check the bottom left area for the link it goes to. Make sure it's facebook.com-yadda yadda.

I've seen a lot of "like" links go to external sites. They can really cause problems with your facebook account or computer.

I do this same thing if it "appears" that ive typed my email or p/w wrong. It takes you to that "re-enter your name/pw" screen. I always double-check that im on a FB page and not an external page.

Does the "like" do that? I thought it was the "join" things... that often asked you to download a program? I've never downloaded any of that crap for that reason. I had to lecture my friend's mom about it... because she was doing all kinds of stupid stuff for extra Farmville points or whatever... If she breaks her computer, I'M the one that would have to go try to fix it!

Theyre also turning your likes and "About Me" stuff, into links.

Yeah. The Facebook "Like" is supposed to be a revolutionary system... should be interesting to see where it goes.

ugh. personally i fail to see how this is "revolutionary". every time social networking sites add more bullshit, it means a headache for that many users. on the other hand, the interweb is pretty sketchy these days anyhow, so like it really matters.

            life is good.

I hate conspiracy theories, everyone should know that. Facebook is starting to scare me. I've thought about deleting my account on more than one occasion in the past 6 months.

It's supposedly going to be serious competition for Google's links. Basically, "liking" something in a very popular social networking site is like free targeted marketing. You have millions of people all over the world "liking" things, and displaying these things to all their friends, many of whom have similar interests. It's not a blanket search, showing the most popular items previously searched by other people... because all that does is show things to someone that is already looking for them. The "like" shows things to people that might be interested that weren't previously looking for it.

If I "like" something, and 50 of my 200 facebook friends notice it. 2 of those 50 also "like" it. Then the cycle repeats... doubled. Many of these friends are shared friends, so everyone has multiple chances of being exposed via the "like" system.

If you notice, you can "like" something on sites outside of Facebook. Youtube, various news sites, etc... It has progressed into the internet proper, not just to Facebook posts and pages.

I only use facebook to keep up with my fiancee and leave her stuff she's too busy to watch while she's at work. Other than that, I HATE it.

thanks for the heads up...watch the apps too.

I get so many spam emails with spam links from my sis cause of all the apps she does...I had to delete all my contacts because I did a couple apps and it sent the same emails. Now that the apps ran their course I have my contacts restored. I think you can check a box to not share your contacts.

One app I could tell was fake from the results the quiz gave...the others seemed legit...until I got people asking me "wtf is this email?". But by the time you do the app it's to late...it has sent the email.
