    Hondas new pickup

Well guys its official...remember that concept you saw last year on the Honda Ridgeline pickup?

Well at the 2005 NAIAS Honda unveiled the production version of its first ever pickup truck

It will be Hondas first ever entry into the half ton truck market..now if they could only develop a more powerful v6 or v8

    Stats are listed below

    Qoutes from MSN.com:
Honda’s first entry into the half-ton pickup segment is a 4-door 5-passenger truck that offers a number of innovative features including a steel reinforced composite bed, a dual action tailgate, and a lockable watertight storage area location under the truck bed. The Dual Action tailgate can be lowered like a traditional tailgate or swing to the side

Ridgeline is powered by a 3.5-liter VTEC V6 engine that produces 255 horsepower and 252 lb-ft of torque, mated to a standard 5-speed automatic transmission.

Standard equipment includes air conditioning, power windows, power door locks, air conditioning, and 5-passenger seating. The second-row features a 60/40 split bench seat will lift up to allow using the rear seat area for cargo. Standard safety equipment includes side curtain airbags with rollover sensor, front side airbags, ABS with Electronic Brake Force Distribution, Vehicle Stability Assist, and traction control.

Unlike traditional full-size pickup trucks, the Ridgeline does not have a cargo bed that is separate from the passenger cab; the bed and cab are integrated, giving the truck a distinctive look. The Ridgeline uses a fully integrated closed box frame and unit body construction, and is rated for a half-ton (1,100-pound) bed capacity and 5,000-pound towing capacity.

The Ridgeline also features four-wheel fully independent suspension and a fully automatic Variable Torque Management 4-Wheel Drive System (VTM-4WD) that can transfer up to 70 percent of the available torque to the rear wheels.

Ridgeline will be offered in three versions, RT, RT-S, and RT-L, and will go on sale at Honda dealerships in March of 2005. Final pricing has not been announced but is expected to be in the range of $27,000 to $32,000.

Now if I had 30 grand...man my next CB7 would find itself a new hauler

So who is going to be the first to do this swap?

I like it, though I think they are going to need a high powered V8 to keep up with the truck market. As far as I am concerned the Nissan Titan blows this thing away.

It seems as though it is out of the price range of most ricers. It will be rather sad when it happens though.

Fo those that can't afford the Excalade!

Drug dealers and various rich-boy ballaz will have those riding on chrome 24's within days of the official release. I don't like it at all... Such a big-ass vehicle powered by a V6? Come on Honda! If you're going to sell out and make a truck, put a V8 in it!!!

Compared to the new RL, that thing is a turd. The RL makes 45 more hp, and 8 lb/ft of torque!

The ONLY thing I like about this monstrosity is the fact that it comes with a 5 speed transmission. Not many (if any) of the modern luxo-truck things come with manual trans.

I thought it said that it came with an automatic 5-speed?

My daughters have had a poster of the concept truck (Honda SUT [Sport Utility Truck]), which looks almost identical, on their bedroom wall for almost a year now. They got it from the local Honda dealer when I went there for parts one day.

Honestly, I don't see anything wrong with this thing. First and foremost it's a Honda... which means if it's anything like their cars it's going to take an ass kicking and most likely never die. Second, It's got some great innovations that not only make up for it's short commings but make it better then it's competitors over all. Lastly, since it is a Honda the diehard Honda owners are going to be more inclinded to buying one if they consider getting a truck rather then it's compeition.

Brand name recognition is key here and Honda knows that. They've put themselves in an excellent position. I don't think they'll fail personally.

Very good points, Jose. I don't doubt that it will be quality (though it seems to me that Honda's quality and reliability isn't what it used to be... perhaps I'm just biased!) I'm sure it probably gets better mileage than the V8 competition as well. Still, it does't impress me at all. The Escalade/Avalanche similarity bothers me. Especially since I know that GM and Honda have developed a bit of a relationship (or so I hear... so I guess I don't "know" :lol )
