    What kind of MORON???

thinks an ECT sensor is the same as a thermostat. especially since hes been in our class for 8 months and studying engine performance/diagnostics.

He can pull amperage readings from a throttle motor on an electronic throttle corolla or use a 10,000 dollar toyota scanner and bring up PID's for diagnostics....

yet he didnt know the difference between an electrical sensor and a mechanical device that controls coolant temp. whatever happened to going back to the basics? Worst part is that he is applying to Dinan.

"yea, go ahead and do a cooling system flush and change the thermostat."

"Hey! which wires are the thermostat hooked up to?"

"Smacks head and fires employee for being a complete fucking idiot."

Yea, just like the hyundai dealership pulling a cylinder head just because there is a misfire code and sends the head back to us because they dont know how to use shim adjustments on a bucket type lifter. what kind of fucking morons are working on cars today? this isnt computer programming and it isnt your 72 Ford torino.

Cars today require a nerd/mechanic crossbreed just to work on the simplest of problems. I have no idea what you just said but I bet its probably realllyy obvious and stupid for a guy studying mechanics to do.

I know how to work on cars, I know how to work on computers. I have no idea how to work on a 2010 rolling lego playset with more sensors and computers then horsepower.

i guess it is kinda like getting a bachelors in automotive repair. it does get pretty tricky especially troubleshooting electrical. I havent even touched air conditioning, diesels or trnasmissions. i did a little rear end differential and trans but its not my forte.

Air conditioning is pretty simple to fix, but if you're dumb you can really screw it up, and makes a ton of money for the shops....Average A/C fix is $600-$1,000 but only costs the shop $150 parts and 2 hrs of labor. People love their A/C

I hear you on people who are very intelligent in some areas, but just don't understand mechanics. I like to believe I'm strong in both....Physics taught me all about electrical circuits as well as mechanical "events", everyday life fixing stuff on a small farm gave me plenty of roots and background, and then working a couple summers with a private auto technician taught me everything else about vehicles except tranny rebuilding.

95% of the time with modern vehicles a problem can be traced to a bad sensor, switch, circuits, fuse, etc., but the other 5% of the time you better know how to tear it down and put it back together correctly!

Yea thats why I never have a mechanic touch my car unless I personally know them and their expertise.

....I spend most of my day around mechanics... If you spent time with the average mechanic I think you may change your mind..

Its amazing what the new software/diagnostic equipment can do.. They can open and close solenoid, valves, test each individual sensor, etc wireless through a laptop across the shop.(for many modern cars)

The independent shop or mechanic is the one who gets fd ..... If they don't spend 15k for a software update or diag tool they get to troubleshoot it the old fashioned way... Think about tracing down a evap problem... The low tech mechanic can read the code and all he will get is that it is a "large" or "small" leak.... The dealer tech can plug it in and know where, why, what part to order and test the operation through his computer..

Some people on here used to think a OEM carb'd CB diddn't exist.

you cant open and close the thermostat

                      evap leak = smoke machine.

the one way you can test the t-stat is to remove it from the car and immerse it in a clear pot of water, heat the water to at least 160-170 degrees and up and see if the t-stat opens and closes

i did this before just to try it out and it worked

at thaty point, you might as well just change it. it's like piston rings, you already have them out...you might as well.
