What you have, my friend, is an expensive toy gun. If your wife is actually a 911 dispatcher I'm sure she'd rather you put your toys down and actually came up with a plan in case of a home invasion scenario.

Don't try to justify defending your family with an expensive toy gun.

I don't believe you so I'd like to, with your permission, visit you with a can of pepper spray. I'd like to be shot at 10 feet... then I'd like to spray you at 10 feet. We'll see who is left standing. $15 can of pepper spray > $1000 air soft gun x 100. This isn't Home Alone.

lmao. i already have an escape plan for the house in case someone breaks in. cant get into the house without making a noise. yeah it sounds stupid for protection. sorry i said anything. lol. and pepper spray is a good idea. til it gets back in your face too because of the A/C being on. lulz. so both the person who broke in AND you are on the floor in pain. ugh....ive had a mist of that stuff hit my face and my eyes were burning for at least an hour.

ill look into getting a taser....hmmm.....wont kill the guy. but he wont be able to talk for while. haha. a gun is reasonable. that much i do get. and the kids are smart so im sure if you shoot a cute lil bunny with a 9mm, they'll get the point that it aint something to mess with. and you do have my permission tho. come on down homie

i have thought about getting a real gun tho. something small. but the bad part is as soon as i buy it, i fear id have to use it. guns are loud. i dont like noise all that much. thats why i carry the wakiszashi when im home alone. lol.

Having an escape plan is great for a fire or natural disaster. A home invasion, however, is not a case where you should go running out of your house. In many states, there's what's called a 'castle doctrine.' In a self defense scenario some states have a duty to retreat. Meaning you must retreat from the threat where possible IF you can get to a safer location. For example, if a man is backing you into a corner you can not retreat. If you're 30 feet from a police station you must retreat to that area of safety.

Your house is the main exception. You don't have to retreat from your house because that is THE safest place. You must barricade yourself and wait for help. Running outside will probably put you and your family at risk.

Pepper spray will blow in your face if you're facing the wind. I highly doubt you have 10-15mph AC going in your house. It's good that you thought about that though. These are the things you should think about BEFORE shit hits the fan. I'd take my chances any day over a toy or a sword. I want to knock the intruder down as far away from me as possible.

i would love to have one of those.....

        You can.

One thing I like (never tried) is electronic earmuffs. They block out sound over say 20db. You can hear range commands and normal conversation. When you fire the gun shot is filtered out.

Honestly, multiple armed men aren't going to be breaking into my house. My house is tiny, and the most valuable thing I own is probably my xbox. The only people that will be breaking into my house will be teenagers looking for a thrill, or a crackhead looking for quick cash. Both of which would be easily scared or dispatched by the weapon that I know how to use. You might as well say "what if the Russians invade?"

When I get a larger home, and possessions that might be more desirable to a thief, then perhaps I'll get a gun.

i only hate you because your smarter than me. lmao. j/k

but ive never heard of that before. "castle doctrine". and no. i dont think our A/C blows that much. lol. but id rather not take the chance of any of it, no matter how light the mist, getting in my, the dogs, or anyone else's face who might be up at that time. a taser would work fine tho. one shot and the guy is down. i doubt anyone over the size of 250lbs will be breaking so i know they wouldnt be able to take it.

but as ive said, in the area i live in, it doesnt take much to fend someone off from your house. lol. only time your in real danger(in this area) is when you walk out to someone wanting to fight you. THATS when you have to worry about guns. but someone breaking into your house.....well lets just say no one around here puts much thought into that. lol. a knife is the most dangerous thing they'll have. not too many smart people live in my city.

very true. i dont want the guy breaking in to have any way to close the gap of air between me and him or anyone in the house. but trust and believe, if i dont get him, my g/f will. lol. she's taken me down before im sure she can take on anyone who breaks in.

I've heard that the bigger you are the more a taser impacts your body. The voltage causes muscle spasms and if you're a big guy with big muscles... it's going to drop you faster. A taser isn't a bad option at all. Check with all related laws before you carry it out of the house though. You MAY need a concealed weapons permit to carry it, I'm not sure.

My guns are locked and kept according to the law.
                    We are permitted.
I do not allow my children to play with BB guns, toy guns, ect. for one reason.
                    I own guns.
They MUST respect that a weapon is a weapon, not a plaything.
My children have never seen my guns. Hopefully they never will-outside of a range. They are not old enough for that, yet.
Have you ever heard of a kid from a huntin' family accidentally killing a neighbor kid, playing with daddy's gun?
                    NO.
Because those kids KNOW what that gun is for. Its only the children that see it glamorized/marginalized that "play" with weapons.
                    END RANT/
                    LOL.
i agree for the most part, but In my opinion children should be taught about guns instead of kept away from them completely. i was raised around guns and knew to never touch them until we were going to use them. my grandpa kept (and still does) his long-guns (shotguns and rifles) in an unlocked, glass-face gun cabinet with trigger locks on them and the ammunition stored in the lower cabinet. i'd look at them a lot because they were really good looking guns, but my parents knew they didnt have to worry about me taking them out of the case. from a very early age, my family would take me shooting. i'd shoot 22 rifles at his targets we pinned to his old pig buildings (nothing for over a mile behind them except farmland and hills) and quite often shoot clay pidgeons in the back yard.

i was never allowed to play violent video games that glorify shooting and such and it took a LOT of convincing for them let me play paintball because i would be pointing a "gun" at other people.

i recieved my first shotgun when i was 12, a 20guage Remington 870, and had the option of getting a rifle when i was 16 (i cant remember what i got instead). this is considered a family tradition, every male in my family has gotten a shotgun at 12.

this is exactly how my kids will be raised.

naw. i checked with the local 5-0. you dont need a license to carry one. just have to take the classes to own it. and ive seen a few big guys get tased before and it hardly did anything to them. but then again ive seen guys my size get tased and still able to run and fight like nothing happened to them. lol.

i would sell them but i mainly have them for my airsoft battles i go to. i just bought my last one. lol. cost me $140shipped but it was worth it. especially since i can upgrade it. and thats always been my stand on firearms. if i lived by myself, id have one in a heart beat. but since i have kids that are freakin smart and are able to get to anything in the house, having one even with it locked up isnt an option. lol. unless, like i said, i shoot a cute lil bunny to show them its nothing to play with.

and yeah. she took Te Qwuan Do(sp?) all thru her child and teen years. even when i was exercising every day, she was able to wrestle me to the ground. lol. but im the 1st line of defense tho. with the training ive been thru, i doubt they'll get thru me unless they do have a gun.

and i enjoy our lil debates too. lol. give me stuff to think about and still stuff to laugh about too.

Ever try to pull out your handgun in a room with a decent martial artist with training in disarming guns?

Unless your handgun is already loaded and ready to go AND you can draw it fast AND you will not think twice before shooting a human being, a good martial artist WILL disarm or kill you. If you don't train on a regual basis, you need a good 50feet of distance in order to use your handgun effectively. In my opinion, a sword/knife could be more effective inside a house as long as you know how to use it. But of course it is better to have multiple weapons so you can improvise depending on the situation.

I agree that kids should be taught the basics. However, we have a right to own and I respect other people's desire NOT to own a firearm. I don't want to push my views on anyone. I just want to inform people so they can make the best choice possible for themselves.

I got my first gun, Remington Model Seven .308win at age 14-15 I think. After that I won (as in free) a Remington 870 Express Super Magnum 12 ga. which accepts up to 3.5" shells. It's sweet because you can't actually put a shotgun shell in that ISN'T meant to go in it. You can fit a 3" shell in a shotgun chambered for 2.75" because the chamber is actually 3" to allow for the shell to expand because the end is crimped down to hold the shot inside. The chamber is 3 inches because a 2.75" shell becomes 3" when fired. A 3" shell WILL FIT but when it's fired it'll cause a bottle neck because the chamber isn't 3.25" long. When the 3" unfired shell is fired it becomes 3.25" and... yeah bad things can happen to your barrel. ANYWAY!

When your life depends on it get quality. A Taser brand will knock people down even through thick clothing. Always aim center mass. When firing a taser, the laser will shine on the spot where the highest probe will hit. The other probe will hit much lower.

i would sell them but i mainly have them for my airsoft battles i go to. i just bought my last one. lol. cost me $140shipped but it was worth it. especially since i can upgrade it. and thats always been my stand on firearms. if i lived by myself, id have one in a heart beat. but since i have kids that are freakin smart and are able to get to anything in the house, having one even with it locked up isnt an option. lol. unless, like i said, i shoot a cute lil bunny to show them its nothing to play with.

There are tons of ways to disable a firearm. A quality safe, a trigger lock, and disassembling the firing mechanism are all very good ways to keep little fingers away from danger. Locking ammo up is also a good idea. Finding the line between acceptable safety and completely inaccessible in a SHTF scenario is the hard part. Use a safe but keep a pistol loaded inside of it? Keep a trigger lock on the pistol which is in the safe? etc.

and yeah. she took Te Qwuan Do(sp?) all thru her child and teen years. even when i was exercising every day, she was able to wrestle me to the ground. lol. but im the 1st line of defense tho. with the training ive been thru, i doubt they'll get thru me unless they do have a gun.

                              What training do you have?

and i enjoy our lil debates too. lol. give me stuff to think about and still stuff to laugh about too.

lol. the kids already came from a violent history. no need to involve them in anything like that.

very true. i always think of the worst thing that could happen. my dad has always taught me that. im glad i have learned that tho.

If you're robbing a house OR if you're in a SHTF scenario, your weapon should be out already. Have you ever tired to pull your weapon in a room with a decent martial artist?

A sword/knife is NOT more effective inside of a house unless it is your only weapon available. Even a pistol is not as effective as a semi-automatic rifle. Why do you need 50 feet to be effective with your handgun?
