I want to beat this EG?! Lets discuss...

This is my neighbor....94 Eg completely gutted with a brand spankin rebuilt B16 with a full exhaust n economy header short ram intake with an upgraded intake manifold and throttle body.....racing cams?....chip n tune and is said to be pushing 175-180 (believable)

My plan is....get my grant for school (6 grand....3 is ACTUALLY for school) and enroll in my engine rebuild automotive class...

    H23 Bottom end...rebuilt
    New pistons? Type S?
    ARP head studs
    H22 Head
    Skunk2 cams?
    Port and Polish
Some brand of economy headers..along to full exhaust
    Chip n tune on Dyno

    H22 or H23 Tranny?

All this should be done in my classes auto shop and i get 8 hours a week to work on it....rebuild will consist of a $300 seal n pump kit and good old cleaning job

Head i may find on craigslist or something rebuilt n resurfaced and just rebuild the block in class..

This IS my first ever rebuild but wont be done alone and with the supervision of MANY ASE certified mechanics and 2 Honda specialist to look it over...

Swap i will think will take me a few days maybe the whole weekend unless possible in 8 hours of classtime....i doubt that...ima get stuck on wiring lol

what do you guys think???? will i be able to pull away in 3rd now??? (thats where he gets me)

I have a H23, DC header, full exhaust, p14 ecu and a short ram intake with a h22 trans in a 4 door ex and from a roll I walk on hatches like this all the time. From a stand still its normally pretty close. I have traction issues, I have crappy tires and tend to get alot of wheel spin. They arnt really that quick. You should be able to walk all over that hatch with the build your talking about, just make sure you have some stick rubber under your car.

ima pretty decent driver...drove stick since 16 so im sure i can launch n repeatdly chirp without spinning with all that hp...my old corolla had bout 170...

n i thought a custom build would b knda cheaper cooler n higher compression?

a whole H22 would just cost more...when the time comes ill create an actual thread discussing all details...

oh yeah also gotta through in a stage 2 clutch and a 12 lb flywheel...someone mention a reputable brand..if not ill just search it later

        quick question tho...

will racing cam on Type S pistons make valve clearance???? theres not gna b any problems will there?

Do you already have the h23? If not the h22 swap will cost you about the same.

custom builds cost money. An h22 is cheap now you can bargain if your low on cash. If you are in a situation like that why even think about money matters . This game is not for the timid you gotta pay to play no matter which angle you look at it. You dont need type s pistons the stock h22 pistons would suffice

Go with the h22 if you can get it for 900 and youll have about $1,000 left for some nice power adders after buying a tranny.

Bent rod honestly I wouldnt even mess with a motor thats already been damaged from the jump. Your cheaping out again. An h22 for 900 that with the complete swap forget about him I rather buy it from a vendor atleast you get a warrantee on the motor.

You buy the motor from your boy that motor no offense to you or your friend maybe run down on its last lack and shit will have a higher value than it. Atleast with a motor vendor distributor you can send the shit back if its fucked up. Then when you buy the motor from your boy and you put it in and find out the motors fucked up he already got your money and buyin him a more prestine motor with less issues with it.

h22 complete swap, aftermarket clutch, 50 shot wet or dry zex kit and its a wrap you wont get 220whp unless you build internals will cost far less than a build and call it a day.

Your not gonna hit 200 unless you go into the motor quite a bit. If you want a reliable setup stay away from nitrous unless you build it for it. Turbo will blow your budget out the water. Just buy an h22 from a vendor, dont rebuild it, just put a new timing belt, water pump, thermostat, plugs, wires, dizzy cap and button. Take the left over money and put it towards a header and intake and mabey cams. If you drive on the interstate alot get a f series trans, if not get a h22 trans. Forget chipping a ecu on a car that isnt built or turbo. I would just take the left over money and put some stage 2 cams and a decent set of valve train components in it and you should be good. Reliable but simi built and can drive it every day still.
