I'm moving into an apartment... probably!

Well with my wedding coming up (August 10th) I need to move out of the room mates place. I refuse to get married and live with room mates. Nothing like carrying a newly wed wife across the place you rent and having other people there watching you.

I've been looking for a few weeks now and I've come across a house for rent. It's damn small but we don't need anything big, just cheap. and for 425 a month it doesn't get any cheaper than that. Although how small is too small?

I'm curious would any of you trade floor space for privacy. Being a house there is no neighbors to wake up when your being too loud or parties, or anything! but it's only 385 sq ft. What do you think?

Damn that storage shed looks bigger then the house.

That place looks tiny man. Would you be signing a lease?

Yeah, it's tiny alright, I pulled up next to it my fiancees 86 supra and it's about as wide as the car is. I don't need lots of room. But what's really appealing about it is the fact that it's no neighbors.

My fiancee has rented from the person before when she was with her really bad room mates who defaulted on the lease and everything. She took care of it with the renter and made everything out to be good. He and her are on really good terms which is why it's likely we can get it if we want to.

There's a loft we're going to go look at Sunday which is 500 sq ft but it's also 550 for rent which is our max we would be willing to go to. But we'd also have to deal with people next to us or below us or whatever.

price seems right, and there is nothing like having your own place.
as we all know, she is gunna wanna decorate it. soooo.
looks good from this side of the house.

no roomies FTMFW!!! Been a lil over a month here, and it has been fantastic.
Plus you can save some good money.

Holy shit thats cheap....I live in a town of 50000 people and I cant find anything anywhere near that price....I woulda thought being st. louis itd be more expensive.

But more to the point...I personally dont think I could live in a place with that little square footage....My current apartment is 800 and it is almost too tiny

I say fuck it ... its $425, it your own space and its NOT FOREVER !!!

Whats the benefit of renting a bigger place for twice the amount thats only putting you further behind home ownership?

Pay the 425, save all you can, but own house. Its that simple.

If you can technically afford to be paying $800/$900 a month, then pay your 425 and save the difference.

If you do that ($425 a month) in 2 years you've got just north of 10gs for a downpayment.

                  ******* EDIT **********

To anwser teh question. Privacy for floor space ??? ALl day long nukka . Il NEVER EVER EVER share any wall, celing, floor, with anyone again.

Even my last apartment before we bought... It was the ONLY residential unit in a comercial building... Totally empty after 5pm. That would be about the only place I would ever rent again. ACtaully, it was a neat place. 3 bedroom, HUGE liing room and kitchen, downtown Port Hope ... fron the roof of the second floor we could sit and watch waht was going on at the bandshell.

Not that it matter... but heres a pic of teh place. The apartment was the whole 3rd floor, you can see the deck, and the roof of the much larger second floor was like a yard (just on a bit of a slant ha ha ha)

That is pretty small, but if you like it and it's all you need, go for it.

I like the sound of that 500sq ft though. See how that goes. With a loft, if it's top floor, you shouldnt have too much to put up with as your neighbors will be below you.

And yes, the midwest is fairly cheap. The house we're in now is a 3bed, 2bath with a 1car and it's $675.

Will, good luck man and congrats.

385 square feet is pretty small, but it definitely helps having a storage shed to put the shit you don't need on a daily basis (makes those 385 sqft go a lot further). Having a place all to yourselves is sweet.

Do you guys have a lot of friends that you want to hang out with a lot, or are you more solitary? The downside to a place that small is that you have no privacy whatsoever if you have guests, it doesn't look like it even has a seperate bedroom/living room. If its just ya'll two, fine. But where do you hide the whips and chains when people come to visit? Girls like to have a bit of privacy for their stuff usually, so that could be an issue.

What the hell? You're getting married! Be close with each other for a while 'till you can buy a place. Nothing wrong with closeness and privacy I agree with AstroVannin and greencb7inc. Around here budget housing costs about $1 / sq ft. Fancy stuff $1.5-2. Sounds like that is on par with where you're at.

All jokes aside, 385 sq ft is considered small in Manhattan

My apt now is about 700 sq ft

For 2 people, ~500 sq ft is a good size.... just get a small bedroom and a large living space

                        Congrats on the wedding breh

Thanks guys. I've put a huge XL sheet together comparing different places and floor plans and what not. It ranges from .76 cents per sq ft. to 1.25 I'm pretty skeptical about going into a studio apartment just for the fact that I want a bed room at the very least. But there is one apartment complex around here right by Ameristar casino that's about 525 a month and gives you 690 sq ft. the down side is that the walls don't keep out any noise, there is drug dealers all over the place, and white trash / crack heads living there. It's kinda the reason I'm thinking I wouldn't mind a smaller place but with more privacy.

You guys would be surprised how cheap it is here. I think I payed 705 a month at Sunvalley Lake Apartments and got 875 sq ft. With a fire place and a lake side view on the top floor (2 story). But right now it's like what AstroVannin said. We eventually would like to save up a but ton of cash and move into a house we actually own, not to mention go to school and finish everything up.

That place is tiny. With a place that small, I think you and your fiance/wife will get a little "tempered" just because of the lack of space/privacy when you want to do your own thing.

                            But, w/e....

Home ownership is overrated right now. I think you should def get a place where you can save, but don't kill yourself in the meantime.
