okay so ive got an ACER aspire s100 that i got from my gfs dad and it came from the factory with windows vista and he somehow got windows xp on it, anyways when ever i get on the it it says "this copy of windows must be activated with microsoft" so i go through the activation process and it dosnt work becuse i think he illegaly downloaded XP onto it. theirs gotta be a way to bypass this isnt their?? please help

hmm, i'm not sure. you used the coa on the bottom of the laptop for the activation process right?

yeah well i tried but it was for the original vista version, i dont care what operating system i have aslong as it works lol i had a guy at my old work fix it but now he moved and it fucked up again

there are a few things you can do to rectify the problem.

1. Get the copy of XP to pass WGA Validation
2. Reformat with a version of Vista which is licensible on that machine (must have genuine serial from Microsoft sticker on laptop)
3. "Acquire" Windows 7, and a proper tool to make it "genuine"

the 3rd would be my motion of choice.

I'm not sure if you can do it on that particular computer. But when I bought my HP desktop, it didn't come with the OS disks, I had to go to HP's website and download and burn the disks. It was free.

You might give that a shot, maybe check out Acer's website, see if they have the original OS you can download and go from there?

if you have windows xp Home Edtion Use this key:

M9HRP-HPB4V-TB2CY-YQHX3-4XX88

if you have xp Pro use this Key :

TKF8T-DDXVF-8DDF3-F2KY4-3CJJ3

The home key should let you activate right away but the 2nd(xp pro) takes a few steps since I have used this one already.

Click activate windows and the click Phone to activate, after the on the bottom left side you will see change product key. put the key for the windows you have then go back and select avtivate online (if your using the Home key) if it does work you will see it say thank you.

for the Xp Pro key
do the same steps but after changing the key continue to the phone to avtivate and call Microsoft. a computer will ask you for some #'s after that she will ask you how many computers you activating the copy of windows you say 1 ( say more than that and it wont work) and then she will give you the #'s to put in to activat your windows.

Use the same steps if the home key does not work (in case some here uses it before you do )

anyone here can use these keys to activate windows. just follow the steps.

all you have to do is get it activated over the phone. works every time.
doesn't matter if it is pirated or not still works.

You don't call MS because it came with Vista. You'll need to obtain an OEM version of whichever Vista version (Home Basic or Premium most likely) on disc and install that. The process to make a legit install of Windows 7 will probably be above your head at this point.

your probley right but ill try anything i just dont wana go out and spend $120 on windows 7 and not be able to make it work on my laptop.
