I don't even think there's a place to land there. I heard that the airports and runways were totally destroyed, is that true?

dude. i know you want to help and all but stop. worry about getting your situation figured out 1st. what if your gone and a job calls? you get back that position will be filled. why would you want to leave all the bills to your fiance?
you going over there will cause even more problems. what if you bring some un-curable disease back to the states or Japan when you return?
yeah sure you plan on training to become a police officer but seeing a MASS of dead bodies, famine, disease, and other crap is NOT something your going to be trained for so its not something you'll be really able to bear. before you go helping someone out be sure your own house is in order.

It kind of pisses me off to see pictures and videos of help arriving, but they're all calm, casually strolling in, shaking hands, no rush for anything. One would think they would get off the plane and a bus would be waiting to rush them in to the area

You are talking crushed and dismembered bodies, laying in the rubble in the street.
Children starving, sitting in their own filth with boyles, blisters, scabs and all sorts of other festering wounds caused by desease and famine. You are likely to see murdering and violence, pain and suffering and death and destruction on a level that you can't possibly imagine.
It is sort of like most people's first major accident investigation. Most can't handle the field because it is too grotesque. It is grotesque on a major level just in pictures, what with seeing little infants laying around with no arms and such. Add to that the constant stink of just dead bodies, with the soothing aroma of shit, puke, piss, and disease and you aren't going to like it.
It is not a good way to introduce yourself to it, frankly.
You are going to see the absolute worst things about humanity, and you will be ill equipped to help anyway. Like I said before, it is somewhat noble to want to help, but your help would be far more effective if you stayed home and helped financially so that the professionals and experts can do their jobs more effectively.

I can't say i don't agree with Scott and others in the thread but im secretly hoping my Guard unit will be deployed so that i can help as well. It won't happen anyway so im not worried but every time i see footage on tv and people struggling to remove debris to save people i just want to jump through the tv and help move debris.
As i write this they just granted the US the right to take control of the major airports indefinitely.
Just craziness.

i really would love the opportunity to help.
also even tho im sure this will bother some people, i would love to go photograph as well.
Photography during times like this plays an important role. If we didn't have photos and hard evidence of the Holocaust how could we have known it really happened? People still deny it to this day.
That shouldn't bother anyone unless they're just ignorant. History must always be documented to the best of our abilities for future generations.Last edited by Ralphie; 01-15-2010, 06:18 PM.

I'm sure there are other things you could do to help out the people where you're at. I mean aren't you well versed in website creations? make a website that could make money from ads and then donate all that money to their cause.
I know the company i work for just donated 50k to help out. I'm pretty sure they donated a lot of bottled water and food also since we are a grocery chain.

kind of off topic but.... are they actually burying the bodies? For some reason I thought they would be burning them. I can't imagine that a city which was just brought down to ruins has the space and ability to bury 50,000 people."Auto racing, bull fighting and mountain climbing are the only real sports....all others are games."
