Buy some basic tools. Its a good investment if you wanna to learn to work on cars, and its not much of an investment for some ratchets and whatnot.

If i were you, i'd fix the most important things first. You could also look in your area, i've heard that there are coop garages that exists, you just have to pay for joining and then you use their lift and your tools to fix your car, that way you wont pay 60 or 80 $/hr in a shop. I think they are called coop or association garages.

i did a tranny swap for my car almost 4 years ago and it was not abd.
as for dropping it i'd jsut take a flatbar and pop the tranny out and let if fall. then have two guys push it up and aligin it in. but besure to take ut he speed sensor cuz it would be easier to manuaver it in. when i took my tranny out i worked around the coolent system and did nto have to discconut that.
i'd say get a new tranny from junk yard i'm sure u can get one for 250-350 if you call around and shop. themostat is easy but besure to seal it. and don't worry about suspension parts till lsater unless something is serously clunking and cinsidered dangrous. go on craiglist and put up an ad about fix my car for 500 flat fee so you can get everything fixed for under 1000 easy1991 White Accord LX 5-speed aka Lil' Red

Oh yea you can only really drop a CB auto tranny out the bottom of the car and keep the engine in, trust me its not bad. First time I did it was in a freezing cold garage in the dead of winter. I'm sure you would at least be a little more comfortable doing it in sunny Florida. Oh and all I had was a floor jack and some blocks of wood, no special transmission jack is required.
Just do it to it.

Oh and for tools, here's a nice assortment that should get you started.
3/8" and 1/2" ratchet
8, 10, 12, 14, 17, 19, and 36mm sockets. These are the only sizes you will find on a Honda.
A breaker bar and a 6-8ft water pipe that fits the breaker bar. This is for those tough nuts and bolts such as the axle nuts.
A pry bar. Yes there is a difference between a pry bar and a large flathead.
A ball peen hammer and a 5 pound sledge.
A small assortment of Philips and flathead screwdrivers of varying sizes.
A set of metric open-end wrenches. I have a good set of standard and metric wrenches that I picked up brand new for $10 several years ago. Haven't broken one yet.
Pliers are good to have as well.
Now if there is a discount tool store or a flea market with those traveling guys that sell cheap chinese tools you can acquire this basic assortment on the cheap. If you keep them in a safe place away from sticky fingers then these tools should last you for several years. You could easily swap a tranny with this assortment, and a floor jack or 2 and some stands.

well i just called harbor freight and they said they dont rent tools. the cheapest cherry picker is 129.99$ . if i cant borrow one im just going to have to buy it. itll come in handy anyways when i do motor mounts, etc.
i need the cherry picker to bring the tranny down from the car after picking it up.
im going to ask my cousin if i could borrow his tool box. im sure since its an emergency hell let me .
ive read the haynes manual, and im still reading it now just to make sure i have no surprises. the part that is confusing me is marking where the driveplate and torque converter go ..
