Yeah. The FL scene was big from what I remembered. Do you live too far away from any of the local board members?

Get some of those very nice Florida guys to help you out, or at least if you have a friend that has some basic hand tools to borrow you should be set. The junk yard is going to be the cheapest route for parts. (Even better is craigslist since ppl charge dirt cheap prices for anything off the parts car.) hell you maybe able to find a used tranny in good condition as well for cheaper then $350 and that’s a whole trans.
I say don’t get overwhelmed its not that bad, and some of it is very simple fix. just knock out what is not ABSOLUTLY needed to drive it. Prioritize the problems and knock out the important stuff 1st.
1.timing belt +water pump <--- get some friends it just takes a little bit of time, but is cheap and easy to do.
2.tune up stuff (wires, fuel filter etc. ) <---- most of this you can do with out tools.
3. power steering rack <--- you cant wait on this one, unless its frozen up
4. transmission front seal (shop quoted me 350$) <---1st line of order, so the car can move(look into new trans)
5. auto tcu <--- is it bad?
6. exhaust leak has to be welded <----not that important alot of us have these.
7. new o2 sensor <---- is your stock? is it throughing a code for the o2 sensor?
8. radiator fan <---- craiglist/junkyard(very cheap and is only mounted by screws, takes no time to replace.)
9. thermostat <---- cheap....are you over heating?
10. all susp. parts need replacing (struts, springs, bushings, ball joints)<---this can wait unless there is a very serious issue.Last edited by baracuda; 01-13-2010, 07:54 PM.

if i find a new trans, i cant put it in and the tranny shop will charge me an arm and a leg.
5. auto tcu <--- is it bad?
i have a tcu from an auto 91 accord and my tranny is from a 95 accord ex
6. exhaust leak has to be welded <----not that important alot of us have these.

i put in a bosch one. i know the manager so ill be returning it soon but i need a denso one asap. im looking into buying one on ebay for 60$ but i might have to hold on to see what im going to do about this transmission
8. radiator fan <---- craiglist/junkyard(very cheap and is only mounted by screws, takes no time to replace.)

i was overheating. i got a radiator flush today and i havent had any overheating so far.

dang bro, come on now, you can do it. wish I could help...that REALLY sucks, but with the little money you make, hit the frikin JY in West Palm (I drove up there from Ft Lauderdale 2-3 times a week) and get a tranny. And tools are cheap, go to Harbor Freight. You dont have it as nearly as bad as I do, I have to drive 3hrs to the nearest city. Use your available resources, sometimes you have to rely on yourself...and its just mainly a TRANNY issue...no sweat.

right now what im thinking is using my financial aid money comin in the mail next week (hopefully) and if i get a lot ill combine that with what i have now and get the tranny fixed. it sucks that i have to spend almost 1000$ on a rebuilt tranny , but its my only option .. =\

i wish i can help you out man.. but i dont have know how to fix it.. plus i live like 3000 miles away.
May i give you a suggestion? considering that you need your car for DD, why dont u park the CB and buy another super cheap beater for the time being. You can also work on the car along the way, doing one step at a time. Trust me, your wagon is super neat and i will say fix the wagon.

See if u can get the TCU with it...
im sure i can borrow my friends dad's tools. this is an emergency so im sure hed let me. any special tools i need?
how would i go about removing the tranny without a cherry picker or hoist? i have a cheap siscor jack and i could borrow my friends jack that he got from autozone. looks like this

Sounds like you should have never bought this car honestly, specifically for your capability level. You need to sell, save and IF you need a car, get the best priced running car with minimal problems you can find. Regardless, ANY car will need routine maintenance.
If you can't afford the basic expenses of a car, then ask yourself, "Do you really need one?" If you have public transportation or can use a bike, get one. Perhaps a scooter or motorcycle.
I am being serious...
Whining and complaining will not solve your problems. You need to rethink this all. If you really make $150/week, you need to stay at home, hopefully your parents don't charge you to live there, take advantage and just save as much money as you can. Do without what you don't need or get a better paying job.

JACKSTANDS! lol...lift the car, get it on *stands, and get the tranny from underneath the car. your going to be using the jack alot, but it works. start unhooking as much as u can from the top (bay), and then lift it up, unhook/unbolt stuff underneath, and take it of...

I am being frank with you, sorry. Truth hurts man.
Honestly, if I were in your situation I would not even attempt to fix this car, it will cost too much no matter how you do it. You need to start with a better base, IF you really need a car. Otherwise, I'd take advantage of hopefully an inexpensive/free living situation right now and work on getting a better paying job. Then, you'll have more funds and I would still get a better base car with minimal/no problems.
I am knowledgeable enough to help you technically, but I honestly do not feel it is the best answer to your situation. It will drain you EASY to the point you will have to borrow money or take loans just to complete your objective. Then, you'll be in a complete WORSE situation than you started.
That is all I am going to say...make the best choice.
