    Cop Car Mystery.

I have a question and I am seeking opinions cause its bugging me.

So last night I was coming home at 0345 and I was going down a State Route and they are patrolled by Arizona Department of Public Safety. (AZDPS).

Anyways, as I was going down the road, in the median I spied a white AZDPS cruiser without an light bar, but still marked.

So he was completely in the dark, which scared me, but I didnt slam on the brakes. But What interested me...is that he had his back up lights on.

No Brake lights or nothing. if it wasnt for those lights, he would have been just sitting in the dark.

So my question is, is it possible that Mr or Miss AZDPS officer was sitting in reverse with the E brake on...or does AZDPS have some sort of Toggle switch?

Could have been left in reverse when the ignition was shut off.

most cruisers have an anti-theft function that not only allows them to remove the key while it is running, but also kill all the lights (we have DRLs in Canada). The officer probably hit that and accidently put it in reverse instead of park.

If he doesnt have DRLs, he simply put it in reverse by mistake. On a bit of a slope, the car would hold itslef just like it was in park. Thats my guess.

Say this is the case, why would the officer have his cruiser in reverse? Not questioning your ability...makes sense until its time to go after that unfortunate speeder.

Okay, same question, if he had it in reverse, why would he have it like that?

by accident.... didnt make it all the way to park. Hes still going to hit the brake and throw it in drive when he gets someone.

wouldnt have to be if he was on a bit of a slope....the car could just hold itself in reverse if it was pointed down the slope. but yeah, thats the only reason i can think of.

Guess where I am not going to be driving through tonight?

what year was the car? was it a newer model?

some lights on the newer cars and trucks come on as your opening the door or if you just unlocked it with a remote. and on cars its the reverse lights and for trucks its reverse lights and the light for the bed of the truck. you must have ben passing him while he had the door open or just opened the door.

Could be a million different things, I know most of our vehicles are wired by federal inmates, one very different from the other. I guess it depends whos doing the wiring that day.

I've known a couple different officers (police, sheriff) and they have a toggle to kill the brake lights here in OH. It let's them sit in gear with the brakes on without giving themelves away. I don't know why his reverse lights were on though, unless he just missed park.

the reverse lights could have been on a toggle switch .. i know a lot of the different troopers that did those type of things to fool others. i don't know why reverse lights but that might be for a different reason.

the reason he might have been like that is because if I remember right somewhere it says its illegal for them to sit anywhere with there lights completely off..... well i know one officer confirmed this one time but he says that most ppl don't know that and it really is not enforced because how in the hell are you going to prove it without a picture or video. !!

At least here, they have to have their driving lights on. If they're sitting there in the dark with no lights, it's considered entrapment. Although, I've always felt, if you weren't commiting the crime, it wouldn't have mattered anyway.
