    Yet another one

Well, the time has come and I had a question for all the married guys out there (who like their marriage btw).

Before you proposed, how nervous were you? And, Did you talk to your girl friends parents before you asked her?

I want to ask her in February and already have the ring, I just never thought I'd be this nervous and when I stop to think about it, I think I'm more nervous about talking to her dad. Just wondering if anyone else has had this experience.
Been a long time. Still alive...

How much interaction have you had with her dad? As long as you haven't done anything stupid and have treated his daughter well there's no reason to feel scared. Being nervous is alright but as long as he has his head on straight he'll be thrilled to hear you say you want to marry his daughter.

He lives in CA while she and I live in MO. He's a bit crazy, not mean or bad, but just very carer driven. He put a motion detection paint ball sentry gun on his OTHER house in Colorado. The guy is pretty nuts. But none the less, I've only meet him like 4-5 times and we are very different people but I've never done anything stupid.

Theres nothing you should be worried about. If you feel close or semi close to her father, I'd talk to him about it. If you only see him once or twice a year, I'd let it slide.

Slightly crazy, lives far away, seldom met, let alone you don't talk to him much. I'd skip talking with him. Just me.

Asking the girl that you have entrusted and invested so much in, is always a nerve racking experience.

but if you have nothing to hide and have done nothing stupid, then I wouldnt worry about it. just dont drop the ring..lol

From the sound of your situation it might be worth mentioning to your girlfriend that you don't feel like you've really gotten to know her father or that you haven't had much interaction with him. If she seems to think that it's not that big of a deal I wouldn't worry about trying to figure out how to tell him. That's something you do in person, not something you do over the phone. Considering he's all the way in Cali and it sounds like there's a pretty good seperation between him and his daughter I doubt there would be any problem without asking him first*

*I am in no way responsible if you follow through with this and he flips his shit and comes at you with a baseball bat

I'm not married yet, but like you, I too plan to propose in February (our 5 year anniversary). I'm hella nervous too dude, but hey--you've gotten this far. I assume when you know the time is right everything kinda slides into place. And I wouldn't be nervous about talking to her father about it, because even though it sounds like he may be a little nutzor, in the end if you've made her happy for this long he'll realize you have the best of intentions.

              life is good.

Don't ask her in February, ask her New Years Day.

Yeah, the other thing is that he co-owns a company in the SF-Bay area dealing with equity and he's constantly flying to and from all over the world. Catching the guy in "down time" is probably never going to happen soon.

Over this past weekend I've talked to both my girl friends parents. They were BOTH really happy to hear what I had talked about. I was freaking out about nothing. Julie (my girlfriend) and her sister thought that if I talked to him, he would try and talk me out of it. LOL. He was actually really happy to hear it and congratulated me and it went SUPER well.
