Wire Loom Machine -I'm looking for one.

I've talked to my father about my goals for redoing my wiring harness in the car and he suggested that I just loom it as is, but I can't find anyone with a wire braiding machine or the services I need locally.

All I would have to do is zip tie my engines wiring harness where I want the main line to be and where I want the branches to be and then have some one run it through their looming machine.

So does any one know of a place? I've already E-mailed LaCro Products, but other than that I've not found anything useful.

Well just get the split loom in various sizes from Home depot and pop it on the wires, then wrap it with electricial tape. I have made several OEM style harnesses this way, and Honda did it that way as well.

However, are you doing this because you want it to be extra pretty?

I'm actually trying to do it this way to save on the space of each wire branch because I'm doing a wire tuck and looping the wiring harness on the inside of the engine and trying to "hug" it as much as possible.

looking service is probably going to be way out of your budget and honestly not worth it unless you are actually replacing all the wires in the harness. If you are reusing the OEM harness and just moving wires around to your wanted position id suggest just using a more generic wire covering such as the plastic fingertrap style coverings or using heat shrink on it. I have some pics in my engine bay thread if you need some ideas.

Well I just finished talking with the looming company I listed above and it's 200 bucks for the entire wiring harness. I don't think that's too bad if you ask me. Get a good amphenol connector to go on the firewall, mock everything up and send off the harness. They will braid it and send it back. Only thing is time and material charges. Seems pretty good to me.

cant you just twist them and heat shrink wrap it?

Heat shrinking can make it so the wiring harness is very rigid. I'm ultimately trying to A) protect the wires, and B) keep the wires and loom to a minimum in size.

IMO good heat shrinking such as raychem dr-25 would be a better option than braiding. I personally have felt braided industrial harnesses and they are WAY more rigid than heat shrinked harnesses. The braiding needs to be very tight in order to work properly which, compressing a whole buch of wire together created rigidity. heat shrink allows for movement and bending.

You also need to consider weight, the weight of a braided harness because of its tight nature is going to be much more concentrated on your connector hangin off your firewall and the more rigid it is the more strain and vibration gets transmitted through your wires and then into your connector.

Just anchor one end of the wire and insert the other end in a drill and just twist away. By having it braided, you have to use more wire than just twisting it to have an equal length.
