IMO, Civics are kiddie cars, Accords are a little more grown-up. They can be the wolf in sheeps' clothing. This is just in my opinion. Preludes are in between younger-guy sports cars, S2k's are mid-life crisis cars. Del sol's just say "hey I'm 16, I just got my license, and I'll try and race anything out there".

        life is good.

If you let a so called "image" determine what you drive, then you really are lost. I know my car doesn't go with my age exactly or the way others might perceive me to be. But I love the car, and it's practical. I don't care what others think.

It also depends on the 40year old's style. Some older people stay stuck back in time like in the 80's or whatever. Some keep up with the times.

Im never going to sell my car itll be wrecked before i sell it. Mainly because its not going to have enough value to be worth selling by the time i would want to. It might go unregisterd and into storage but it will always be mine.

A clean, well maintained and tastefully modified vehicle is respectable no matter how old it is.

I don't know the answer to that. It's personal preference whether or not YOUR too old to be driving a cb7. I got out of the cb game a long time ago but that's just me. I still obviously have love the car, otherwise I wouldn't be on the forum as much as I am. But I stay for the community, not the car.

I'm 29, soon to be 30. I DO feel a bit kiddish in a modified CB7. Then again, I also enjoy the car. It's fun to drive, and I like the way it looks. Therefore, I won't be getting rid of it.

I would like to get a third car that's "nice" though. Something with power, comfort, looks, and a bit more maturity. My CB7 is my project (and it may eventually be a race car, since I have a good road course an hour away). My Fit is my work car, and is in no way a "nice" car.

I pulled the "I'm old" card when I was 27. A Del Sol with an obscenely loud exhaust and a camo paintjob floored it. A cop heard it, saw me, and pulled me over. He was friendly, so I knew I was good to go. I explained to him that it was the Del Sol, asked if it was a high or low pitched sound (he said high, and I revved... mine isn't high pitched ). Then I told him "officer, I'm 27 years old... I'm long past my days of revving loud and speeding through traffic!" He laughed, and sent me on my way without a ticket

You can drive what you want. I think the cop, and people in general, associate loud exhaust with younger "punks".

Im kind of on the fence about this topic as i feel the way you do; i like the body style, i like the crowd and i like the car in general, but lately ive been asking myself, "Is this really what i want to be driving at this point in my life?"

Im already working on parting/selling my CB and moving to something, I feel, is a little more "grown up". Now i will still mod it and it will still be something i might race around in occassionally, but im hoping it wont be viewed as my "Little Honda".

Its a tough decision and a rather strange feeling. I love imports, i love the crowds, i love how cheap they are to modify and if you take care of them, theyll damn near last forever. BUT, people still, unfortunately, assoicate bright, fast, loud, flashy imports with young kids who are dumb and reckless. Now thats not to say you cant drive one or that you are infact like them, but you will be assoicated with that crowd.

I say this was just one incident, and its not a sign you should sell your CB and move onto something different. I think it all depends on what you like and how old you feel.

I think the real question here is, "Should you still be focused on modifying/tuning little "tinker toy" imports, at your age?". This goes back again, to how you feel and what you wanna do. If you feel you shouldnt, then dont. If you think people are viewing you in a negative fashion, then dont. But its your life my friend. Who cares what other people think or how they view you. You're happy and having fun doing it, thats all that matters.

                          Amen bro

If you look in the car magazines, the guys that get all the credit for modifying the old Corollas, Celicas, 3rd gen Civics, 1st gen Integras... They're all older guys. Late 30s, 40s, some even older.

There are 2 levels, I think. One, you're slapping together a little rice rocket to be like the kids. Or 2, you're an artist... restoring, modifying, bringing a car back to a different era (like building a true hot rod out of an old 30s or 40s coupe...)
If you're old, and you're running $300 wheels on a rusted out chassis, with a thumping system and cut springs... then yeah, it can be a bit odd. If you're old and you have a work of art... that's something else.

Of course, if you're old and YOU like what you have, even if it's the $300 rims, cut springs, and bumping system... then who cares?!

My CB7 is "MY" car. I don't drive people around in it. I don't like driving it with other people. It's loud, and I drive differently with someone there. I take their comfort into consideration, and I don't accelerate as hard, or corner as hard (not that I really push my old car anywhere near the limit...) Another person also weighs the car down noticeably, changing the handling dynamics. All vanity aside, my CB7 exists for me, and me alone. It performs the way I want, it looks the way I want, it sounds the way I want... It's not intended to be for anyone's enjoyment but my own.

My first car I purchased was a 79 280zx.... I loved that thing and still have dreams about it regularly. My first car my family purchased that was mine was a 70 chevelle convertible. I never looked back at american vehicles after owning the 280 and then 2 mkIII supra turbo's. 17 years and counting building and modding imports. I never got into sports and still cant stand to watch sports. I would much rather be working on something or putting a car back together. There also just so happens to be a huge market for this still after 12 years that I have been doing the honda scene. I am 33 now and I have made TENS OF THOUSANDS of dollars on buying messed up motor integras, accords, civics, preludes and more and putting new motors in them and selling them. I absolutely LOVE doing this.

I had the same thoughts recently about buying a newer car (a 2005 TSX actually) since my wife drives an 03 element ( paid cash for it after my fully built 4dr gsr was stolen march 21, 08). I went to actually go buy the TSX and found the wagon I just bought for 600. I realized 2 things.
#1 I dont want a car payment.....I want out of debt.
#2 I love old skool and new car payments will dwindle my play money.
XXX plus this is really my only hobby.....

I have a wife 2 kids and 2 mortgage payments as well. We have NO car payments and I cannot imagine having 2 just to pay that kind of interest on something that depreciates in value so quickly. After interest your 12k car turns into a 16-18k car. I HATE credit cards and credit in general.

Lastly- I know 60 year olds rockin built h22 swapped EG hatches and they daily drive them and started building an h22 swapped EK for his son and loved it so much he got his EG... I dont care what people think. I am just me...some guys like football, some basketball, some hockey... I personally think watching sports is a waste of time but I dont knock people for doing it. I have just found something that creates another form of income and I enjoy doing. So when people question it or say something about it I ask them "Did your watching football give you at least 3000.00 in your bank last year" or something sarcastic like that.
