    Fake Virus Scan viruses/malware/spyware/trojans/whatever...

    I gotz em.

Pretty sure I got them from a flash ad on animefreak.tv (great site, aside from the e-herpasyphilitis that I managed to contract...)

I've squashed 2 already. One was bad, popping up porn windows, and then telling me to buy something to stop it. The other just told me I was infected repeatedly. Not a big deal, but I don't like the idea of having this junk on my computer! Both of them disabled the three-finger salute.

I'm running the Avast anti-virus, and I have Spybot S&D's resident scanner running at all times as well. Avast caught the viruses coming in, and Spybot alerted me to attempted registry changes (which I always deny if I didn't do something that I know affects the registry).

However, even with these two things catching the suckers, they still managed to slip in and take root.

I also can't get into Safe Mode. I'm not sure if that's related or not. It starts to load, hangs, and then restarts again. I can only start normally.

So, does anyone have any suggestions to further fortify my computer? I know I should stay off of that website, which sucks... because I love their selection.

Dammit... not clean yet. I can't search anything. Every search on Google gets redirected to some random portal page.

I hate those things, I usually end up rebooting windows completely when that happens. Backup all your important files before its too late.

Registry Defender is the one that I'm battling now. I guess this would be the third one!

I'm runnnig a full Avast scan now, refreshing Spybot, and about to run Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware.

We get these in CONSTANTLY at work. I remove at least 1 or 2 of these fake virus scanners a day. I use Malwarebytes' to do it the majority of the time. Malwarebytes' and then afterwards going into the directories and registry and removing what's left.

It may be a good time to consider a reload of windows though. Nothing's more satisfying then a brand spanking new load of windows that runs lightning fast.

                    Thanks man,

I'll give it a shot when all this stuff is done. Spybot found 3 entries so far... Win32.Agent.chh and Fraud.Sysguard

I really want to get into safe mode and do a proper cleanup...

Heading to work now... hopefully everything will have finished by the time I get back!

                        http://free.antivirus.com/hijackthis/

i had to combat a really bad virus. i tried every thing thats free. i used this program. it scans all the files. you have to find the virus file name source and delete it from there. it worked from me. the virus that was on my comp was so bad it wouldnt let me do system restore or safe mode. good luck
                        Need CB7/H22/Turbo parts? i got them..check thread

Well, Spybot found a bunch of stuff, as did Malwarebyte... Deleted it all, and things are going pretty good, it seems.

Going to do a restart once I get everything situated, then allow the programs to clean up the loose ends that way.

If I see any signs of further problems, I'll give the other suggestions a shot! Thanks guys, I appreciate it.

Ok, one other weird thing... My clock was somehow changed to 24 hour time. Right now, it's 18:22. I can't figure out how to change it back to say 6:22!
