-Wubi lets you "install" Ubuntu inside windows. If you dont like it, then just uninstall it through Windows Program Manager.
-Ubuntu and it's variants tend to more "old system friendly. Xubuntu tends to work very well with Pentium 3 machines and up.
-Learning curve is becoming more gentle with each new release.
-Aggresive release schedule (every 6 months) means that you can always stay up with the latest and greatest.
Cons:
-This is not Windows, as such there is going to be a seemingly impossible learning curve at first (it'll get better, I promise)
-Installing programs in Ubuntu is not always as simple as Windows. A lot of commercial programs don't even have Linux compatibility.
-Wine. (This is an emulator for windows programs to run inside Linux) I list this as a con becuase it seems like no 2 people ever have the same experience with this program.
-Going Ubuntu cold turkey and killing windows will basically turn you off to computers completely.
-Be prepared to dig into your system more as the need arises to "fix" certain programs and settings.
I agree with this statement 100%.
I have never had any luck with Wine so i usually just don't bother.
Other then that in the last year i have learned a lot from just trying and trying with Linux. 10.04 is awesome. I have it side by side with W7 right now and both run fantastic.

Just installed the newest version of Ubuntu (10.04 or Lucid Lynx) and I have to say that this is the best Ubuntu distro I've ever used.
I had Fiesty Fawn in the past as well as Karmic Koala, but Lucid is much more polished and stable.
I highly recommend trying it out.
The free software library is addicting and the support rivals that of Microsoft.
Very efficient when compared to Microsoft Vista 64, although I am unsure about Windows 7 (which is fast as hell on my work pc).
I am running dual monitors (DVI + HDMI) with no issues.
I have both Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox.
Instead of Dreamweaver, I have Kompozer available which lacks in the raw functions which Dreamweaver is known for, but has an easier dashboard and a badass "split" design (code & preview) which uses the Firefox platform. It's basically a true WYSIWIG and it's completely free.
If you have a kickass graphics card, I highly recommend the desktop effects which man using the OS that much more fun, if not outright appealing. Very similar to the NEW Window 7 (which does kick massive ass), but was available some time ago and has been refined over the years.

I give it 4.6 out of 5.14 Ford Focus ST - stock(ish) - E30 Tune + Green Filter =

mainly i use ubuntu for doing my Android hacking and things because terminal is easier to use then command prompt for windows. but i use windows more because it has more of the programs other people have such as oovoo and stuff.
i have the new lucid linux or something and i love the different workspaces. i wish windows would impliment this in their os.
alone in this game . ::My Ride My Way::

I personally use Arch Linux, but it is not geared towards first time users of Linux. All you get after install is a command line. However, from there you can build it up to whatever you want.
Windows 7 is my primary OS, in which I run Arch in VirtualBox. I also have Arch on a separate laptop.
Edit: I had only read the first page and didn't see the date...Last edited by 415cb7; 09-09-2010, 09:07 PM.
