UBUNTU is a great program. theres sooo many different things between linux and pc, theyre all over youtube. there is also alot of great tutorial there. and for ubuntu, programs will crash not like the whole windows. i say do it, its free anyways, and if you dont like it you can switch over to windows on boot up, and it'll only take like 2 hours for the whole download, and its free.

I put it on my laptop just for fun. To be honest, it doesn't do anything better than windows. I never have crashes in Windows, I never have crashes in Ubuntu. In fact, my web browsing is actually SLOWER in Ubuntu, than it is in Windows. There is really, in my opinion, no reason to change.

well on my windows xp netbook , its sloow as hell. takes about 15 minutes to load and i just bought it about 2 months ago. the hard drive is barely used so im not sure wat the problem could be.

ubuntu should speed it up considerably

Format it and install XP fresh. Win 7 booted faster on my laptop than Ubuntu does...

                Stick with Ubuntu.

I mean i have windows as well as ubuntu but ubuntu deff loads faster then Windows.

I made a video to prove this.

                My laptop= Windows 7, Pentium 4, 1g of Ram
                My desktop=Windows vista/Ubuntu 9.04 AMD 3200 64b, 2G of ram.

So im not going to sit here and talk shit about windows, but it doesnt load faster then Ubuntu, ever.

I kind of gave my laptop the lead on accident and linux isnt even installed on its own partition.

So the fact that it still loaded faster is kind of sad as far as windows goes.

But as shitty as my laptop is, 7 runs great i wont lie.

BTW, Desktop is on top, laptop on bottom.

New laptops do come with cds and cd drives....not sure which you were referring to.

New NETBOOKS on the other hand do not have optical drives and im not sure if they come with software but id doubt it as there isnt an optical drive.

Note- some netbooks, a small few i believe have optical drives but theyre pushing the limits of netbook dimensions i believe.

Ubuntu comes in 3 versions- Desktop, netbook remix, and server edition.

You most likely would be better off using the full desktop version but for netbooks or laptops with small screens netbook remix is optimized for them.

Either way i guarantee you it will run like the wind.

Their website has instructions on how to make your usb drive bootable and all that jazz.

When you restart with the usb drive inserted, Ubuntu will give you the option to delete the primary(and secondary) partitions and reformat to install. Thats how i always do it.

Just remember to backup what you want to keep.

Yeah...Win 7 on a P4 with 1GB of memory...and Ubuntu on a desktop that is 99% guaranteed to have a faster drive, it has more memory, etc...

                            Not exactly apples to apples.

Ok im not going to argue, it isn't the best comparison but it's not the worst either.

In my opinion, both of my computers are slacking and ubuntu still runs faster and boots quicker.

Ive had ubuntu on that laptop, on its own parition on my pc and now installed alongside vista and it always boots up in secs compared to xp, vista, and 7.
