I tried Windows 7 the other day for the first time.

Very responsive and still sticks to the intuitive basics of Windows which I enjoy.

The laptop that 7 was installed on cost abour $800 at Best Buy, whereas 3 ailes down I spotted a cute Macbook selling for an astronomical $2500. $2500!!!!!!!

Id say save up some more and find a deal.

Im actually not keeping this Dell, im getting an Acer Netbook in the winter with Windows 7 preinstalled. I just installed it on this laptop to make sure i like it by the time the netbook is in stock.

No via USB. A 4Gig SDcard to be exact. I used it in conjunction with a USB sdcard reader. I had to open cmd prompt and format the sdcard and then set an active partition and finally flash the bootsect from the cdrom over to the usbcard so it would run correctly at startup. Actually not hard at all just slightly time consuming compared to throwing a cd in the drive and rebooting lol.

This is how I'd have to do it on my Netbook if I wanted to upgrade. Of course, I bought a refurbished netbook on purpose, so I would have XP on it.

I'm going to wait a bit to even consider putting 7 on anything. I absolutely despised Vista... Hell, I didn't even want to change from win2k to XP!

i bought my computer brand new and im suppose to recieve the WINDOWS 7 copy for free. but i lost the receipt and ive been too lazy to go talk to the manager about finding the receipt for me (i know the day i bought the computer n time).

is it worth all the trouble for me?

I dont think it uses less ram at all. I just think that it dosent use alot more, like when people moved from XP to vista. Vista used 4 times as much as XP. Windows 7 dosent seem to use any more then vista to me.

One of the specific improvements for Windows 7 was better memory management, and only using memory for active windows. So yes, it uses less memory than Vista.

Oh, and on a side note, I just formatted my laptop that had Windows 7 RC installed, and put Ubuntu 9.10 on it, haha.

I'm surprised at the low system requirements for W7.

I installed it on a few GX240's at work with only 512mb of RAM and a Pentium 4, and it runs great.
