Got my first Speeding ticket today.....

ok so I doing 60 today with my radar on, saw that a cop had his speed gun on but I just didnt see him. There was a black yukon in front of me surely going faster than wat I was going. So the cop comes pass me brakes and slows down then finally decides to turn around, doesnt even throw on his lights yet, a car pulls in front of him so now its a car between me and the cop, the cop passes the car, 3 mins later he finally throws on his lights, pulls me over. Walks up to my window askes for driver license and insurance, I shows him all that then he askes for me to step out of the car, asked me does I have any weed on me or anyone in the car etc. Searches the car doesnt find shit of course. Then hops back on the speeding dilemma, I told him my tires are bigger than stock so even tho my speedometer says Im doing 60 I might be doing a lil faster, my tire size is 205/65/15, I wudnt know if that was a big enuff size to cause a change in the speed but yea, gives me a ticket and tells me that I would have to show up to court with proof from a shop that my tires in deed throws off my speedo, Now Im asking yal, would my tire size cause a change in my speedo readings?

were you on a highway or street?

edit: when your going 60 your actually going 67.3 mph according to the tire size calculator, it does make a difference speedo reads 12.1% too slow on none-stock tires

      not by my calculations...

at 60, you would be traveling 63 mph which wouldnt net you a ticket. good luck

that's very possible that it was the tires then if their calculations above are accurate. Someone said 63. You might have been going down hill so it might have jumped up to 65. I'd say you have a fighting chance.

Damn thats fucked up. He bagged you for a slight miscalculation. And yeah it doesnt matter whos in front it matters whos goin behind that person thats fast. That way the cop catches 1 thats all he needs he cant catch everyone so it looks liek you where it.

I got a warning for doing 55 in a 35. It was 2 am and I was coming back from a very long day at work. Pretty sure he was looking for drunks, good thing I never drank underage!

I say fight it. But I have to ask the question, if you know your tires are bigger than normal, and there are shops out there that will give you paperwork saying yay or nay on that point, why are you asking us? Just get the paperwork, go to court, and post the results.

I went from a 185/70/R14 to 205/55/R15 just because it's so close to the stock speed rating. the next size up would put me way too fast at 60 and the next size smaller would just look and feel goofy.

The last time I got pulled over it was for going 75 in a 45.

I got out of it, of course.

I think you've got a valid enough arguement to fight the ticket. Granted, you can get a shop to produce some sort of proof of the tire size/speedo miscalculation.

Im not saying its legal or a good idea but here in NY you can get some body shops to write you a recipt saying they removed your tint and you can show the court that to get a ticket dropped. Maybe a similar stiuation would work for your ticket but with a tire shop. Im not sure but its worth a shot if your into that illegal, sneaky, non ethical behavior.

any cop that pulls someone over for going 10 over the speed limit is a b!@#$.Thats right at the flow of most highway traffic. he should be going after speeds that look out of place instead of just picking on people. what an asshole

its does. my tire size is 205/50r15 and its throws off the reading by 2-5 miles

how i know? My Gps, when i go 60, i'm going 63 on my GPS

yes indeed you have a fighting chance to drop the cost of ticket
