Hey guys, well i really am thinking about joining the army reseve, i havent wanted to be in the military since i was really young, but i got a girlfriend when iw as 16, and i was with her until i was 20(which was just last month. Yes, we just broke up last month) so with me being with her my plans were stopped, cause she was my everything. so now that we're over im really thinking about joining again...but i would be willing to be that as soon as i got through basic training i would be deployed right after...and since i just want to join the reserves i dont want to go into action right now....reserves only meet for training once a month..so im just wondering what you guys think!! help me out here. im kind of confused right now about my life after my girl and i broke up....im currently in college and all...but i just dont know where im going!!

hey bro hang in there, think carefully about the army, or wouldnt you rather go to school, to get a great job, then work on the side while your in school make some money, then perhaps enjoy you cb7? i mean we all need hobbies. I know breaking up with your girlfriend is tuff, but she is still around, talk to her and be friends(if thats possible). To me joining the army is rash, i dont want to put myself in harms way for something i dont believe is right. (my personal opinion), but just let some buffer time pass before you make descisions. I hope this helpedl. Good luckTo have loved and lost is better than to have never loved at all #CB7Life

Keep in mind like all our reserves are over there. It's not like they won't consider taking you if you're in the reserves. They send reserves more often than normal troops. All reservists should be expecting a trip to the middle-east. If you don't have anything else to commit yourself to, you may as well be a full-time soldier. Oh, and don't pussyfoot around, join the marines.

where you been, is something wrong?
i try to just smile, and say everything’s fine.

sounds pretty sketchy to me...i know about the big break ups...although i was a year and a half and not 4....but don't let that big change make you go all crazy and put yourself through an unnecessary risk! either way you decide to go, good luck to you, just make sure its what you really want, and not a spur of the moment type of thing
Finally...the drop! (I know it aint much, but I love it! )

The way I see it, is that some people in this world are made for the military; their lifestyle, regiments, routines, they are built for combat and enjoy it. Some people get thrown into that lifestyle, e.g. parents, or personal issues. However, keep in mind, you are experiencing a traumatic break up, and on many levels your mental awareness is chemically imbalanced. Give yourself some time...at least a week or two, and if you still feel strongly about it, than I think you should make yourself happy. I am a proud supporter of our troops, and I give much respect to them. Good Luck to you.

I think anyone can be in the military, because the military will change you to what they need. But I agree its easier for some people than others. I'm not suggesting a couch potato can join and still be a potato. If you aren't a weak minded individual, I think you'll adapt well and become a fine soldier. Remember you are joining something bigger than yourself. All notions of "me, myself, and I" will be evaporated and "us, we" will become most important. Just one thing though. If you do this, do it for yourself. Don't do it because anyone else convinces you to. Even all words of advice on whether to join should be completely ignored. In fact I suggest you unsuscribe from this thread right away. Don't do it because your friends say you should, don't do it for your parents, and definately don't listen to what the recruiters tell you. Recruiters are like car salesmen, only worse because they're selling your life. Don't let anything they say at all influence your decision. Wear ear plugs when they talk to you. Plug your ears and say "LALALALA" really loud. When you make the decision, it should be 100% YOUR decision. And if you do go, stay frosty, and we'll see you on the other side.

damn guys, i didnt quite expect such an overwhelming response to this question, this is kind of nice. but if i go its not going to be because ANYONE else convinces me. I know its probably the biggest decision in my life, and i dont want to be stupid and just go sign up without really thinking about it and doing some research and crap. I may look into other branches as well, ive always liked the air force as well, the navy my uncle was in, the national guard ive never really thought about, the marines i havent thought TOO much about......so im still thinking here, you know i may not even go. but im just not sure yet....but seriously, thank you guys for the insight!!!

It's your choice man, you can do what you want. Sometimes you just have to do what you have to do in life, and usually a lot of good comes out of the decisions you make. You have time to think about it, no rush to join. Put everything in your life in perspective and think how things would change, such as family, friends, a job if you have one.. because it's all going to change. It's a great motivation that gets you up on your feet and takes you somewhere in life.. so I'd say just go talk to an advisor about the Army and see what all they have to offer and let that make your decision. Good luck with everything man.Adam - Retired OG member from '03
