    My first ticket

I figured I'd share this with you since I see a few other people talling all about their tickets.
I wanted to get around this one guy that was going what seemed to be 45 (in a 55mph zone) however he was going the limit and I got around him in a pretty quick manner. by the time I had gotten in front of him to take my exit I was doing 80. At which point the cop jumps out from his hiding place and points me over to the side of the road. at which poin I look down to see how fast I was going and sure nuff 80. This was my first and hopefully last ticket. I've been tring pretty hard not to go around on the highway testing the limits of my car. I go with the flow of traffic for the most part now. not going faster then the dude that's flyin' past me but going faster then the grannys in the slow lane

    and now the ticket:
    80 in a 55:
    $140 and 2 points

Court date set for Jan 5th

I'll pay the fine but I hope to get the points taken off.

did you know that when you pass some one you arent suppose to exceed the speed limit? i never knew that.

Our Drivers Ed teacher told us to get around the car or truck we were passing as fast as possible.. opps!

    anyways yeah.

You prob can get your points or something worked out, since its your first offense. drivers course or i had probation for like 5 months. If i didnt get a ticket in the 5months it got dropped.

I thought it would cost a bit more...

...my first ticket was $275 for doing 65 in a 30.

Before anyone jumps on me about speeding that much, its a very open country road flat and no curves, during the day. Not only that but it was an emergency, so I guess the speeding didn't help any, dah well.

          yeah that sounds good.

On the subject of passing people yeah I remember that from drivers ed. but I never heard about the follow the speed limit when you pass someone. Around trucks and busses I do not play around behind them or beside them and chill out. too many times I've been cut off or run off the road by trucks and busses
but for the most part when I pass cars I'll slowly pass them now. I really don't need or want another ticket.

How long had it been since you passed the car? I think the passing and obeying the speed limit is pure BS... then you will have people hovering in the passing lane not going anywhere for fear of going over the speed limit.

If you had just got done passing the person, i would just say he was doing around 40 mph, and as you got side by side w/him, he started to accelerate, so you increased your speed to get past him in a quick and safe mannor. 80 is a bit high, for passing in that area, but just make sure you are nice... dress up with at least a tie, suit if you wanna go all out(better chance of losing the ticket). Im not sure if you are supposed to say you are guilty, but just explain to him, and say you know you were going a bit too fast, but the guy was going slow, and you were already passing him before he accelerated. But make sure you do admit to your mistakes and plan to be more careful. Im sure you can at least talk your fine down to half of what it is with no points.

increasing your speed over the speed limit isnt really "a safe manor", go ask any cop and they will tell you that you arent suppose to go over the speed limit when passing, i work with 2 of them.

*edit* even when i was on the vol. fire dept, we werent allowed to speed in the ambulance and or firetrucks, goin on a call.

they got me right after I passed him, but saying that would make me sound like I'm making exuses to say I was going fast to pass someone... 80 in a 55 is uncalled for even if I'm passing someone. I did wrong and I regreat doing it. I should have passed him slowly but noooo I had to get by him fast. I've learned from this, that's for sure.

Well i mean, 80 is a little fast, but then again.. the other guy sped up right *wink* But i mean, its common sense that you have to speed up to get around someone. So thats on your side. Also, im sure the judge will ask, "where were you going that you had to be in such a hurry to pass?" So make it short and to the point.. dont say that you were going home to smoke or something stupid. A good answer would be, "I was heading to work, to which i hadent been late in the whole 2 years i have worked there."

But just make sure you say you are sorry.. say that you learned from it, and plan on being a better driver. Also add that you are going to look into taking a defensive drivers course(do some research on ones coming up). Make sure you do dress up though(act like it is a nice job interview). Also, use "yes sir/maam, etc..." when you are talking to the judge.

Just do all that, and they will AT LEAST lower the ticket amount.. possibly dropping it all the way.

I've been pulled over like 13 times now and only 4 times I have received a ticket. I haven't been pulled over for doing 120 in a 70 mph yet...first time for everything I guess. At that point I'll be without a car and walking eh...

Sounds like this was a county highway or something, hence the 2 lane road. Yeah, i usually cruise around 90 on highways though(65-70 zones). Its all about not using cruise control, and watching other drivers, and you'll have no problemo.

Plea bargain it thats what i did. Before you meet with the judge you meet with some other person first, they say the best we can do is give you a seat belt ticket or something like that. It would knock down the price and receive maybe 1 point on your license.
