The dude who sold me my 2nd Maxima was solid too. He let me drive the car for a weekend, and honored the 6 month warranty w/o fighting... replaced 4 ignition coils & some other stuff that made the SES light stay on. Somehow I don't think he weathered the storm... I would love to get another car from him.

In this economy, the honest ones are first to go. The stupid shady ones are second. The smart shady ones will pull through.

you don't get paid unless you sell cars...there is a lot of politics going on behind the scenes you won't realize until you work there.

and no one likes a car sales man either. There's only one I can think of that I liked (guy that sold me my cb7 actually)

I don't know how their commission works, but my former service writer got paid a specific check each month and he HAD to pay it BACK the next.

So if the check was 500 and he made 600 in commission, at the end of the month he'd have made 600, but he'd have to pay 500 back...actually they just took that 500 out of the commission check.

That's fine until you don't make your numbers...then you owe them...again...not sure if that's how it works.

Doesn't seem to really be a great job... but lots of folks do it so must be something there.

i sold mazdas for a month and a half and i fucking hated it. i worked 8 am to 8 pm monday through saturday because i had to go to class at 1 every day. i was dead tired at the end of the day and i never got anything done. sales were terrible at that time and i only sold one car over the entire time. i got paid on a draw, but it wasnt the kind i had to pay back. my boss was an asshole and screwed customers. i could not stand for it, but sadly i never confronted himself about it.

I think the fact that they were mazdas had a lot to do with it.

I am not a car salesman but I go to different dealerships all day everyday for work. They speak honestly around me since I am not a customer.

                  I would say
50% of them are complete scumbags in there dealings in work and off
45% of them are only scumbags in there dealings reflated to work and decent in normal life
5% are not out to screw the customer

As far as what I have seen new car salesman are the worst... I would trust a used car salesman over them

Turn over is high...As far as what I see with small dealerships (under 60 cars a month) love to hire new people... Especially younger.. Hire a kid out of high school or college... They will probably get a couple sales out of it... (grandma, friends, mom, dad trying to help out) Once the friend and family die down and the kid cant sell a car he is fired or pushed out...

They don't look for people that are into cars... If you want the job be honest and say you want to make a lot of money and to make them a lot of money. They will love that. Buy lots of hair jell and a cheesy gold watch.

They work alot ... like at least 60 hours

Around here bigger dealerships have guaranteed pay... of like 50k ... Thats slightly under $200 a day... So we will say $200.......
Every day you work you get paid $200...
At the end of the month its like 4 grand guaranteed
If you make 9 grand of commission that month they subtract what they pay you and you get a check for 5 grand

Generally you don't pay them back for base pay.... But if your commission isn't more then your base pay for a couple weeks don't expect to be there for long...

All I have to say for now

Damn, why don't we change the title of this thread to "why you shouldn't be a car salesman..."

You had better be careful with flipping cars without a salesman's license. The DMV will catch on to your scheme eventually. I've seen it happen.
