Alright, so my 18 month old son had a doctors appt. friday for a cyst that was found on his brain. We were at the hospital from 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. I experienced MANY things that day that I could NOT handle for the most part. We started off the morning with the drive up there. It was 6:15 a.m. and I had been up ALL night with a sick to my stomach feeling. We arrived there at 7:30 a.m. and went to the neurosurgeons office. He was sent down to have an EEG done.
To have the EEG done they have to attch about 20 (not sure if thats right) wires to my son. I had to hold him down while he was screaming JUST for them to put them on him. The whole time I wanted to punch the nurses. So they get them on him and start to run the test and me and my 3 year old are asked to leave the room and only mom could stay... WTF??? Anyways about an hour or so later they are done and have to pull these things off him. They have us hold him down again using fingernail polish to remove them. I was so hurt just knowing he was scared to DEATH having to be held down like that.
From there we had to go to the pediatric specialist for an IV for contrast in his MRI that was following the IV. I had to hold him for that and he just kept screaming "OWWEEE" "daddy". So i took it knowing he HAD to have this.
Then we take him to the MRI. I am shaking because they have to sedate him to have this done and it will basically look like he is "dead" because he will be knocked out. They give him a sedation liquid that he drinkas and he fought it. Then I had to walk around holding him and rocking him to put him to sleep. He just kept getting heavier as he uncontrollably deadweighted himself in my arms. I started crying then. (i know boo whoo right but it is my kid and I love him to death) so i had to take him to the MRI machine and lay him in and watch him slide into it. I sat RIGHT at his side the whole time in tears. He gets out and we have to sit and wait for him to wake up out of the sedation. It is hard to see your child NOT responding to their name nor anything you say. finally he comes out.
We go back to the neurosurgeons and they bring in the MRI films and show us the cyst and that it had grown since the last appt. His doctor then gets really serious toned and says " now mom and dad", and told us the deal with the cyst being dangerous and that an operation was NEEDED to be done. He then says " this isn't a kidney or hernia or gallstones, THIS is brain surgery" "There are MANY risks" he goes on to tell us that the cyst could cause menegitis if not treated and could anurism and cause instant death. He then says to us " I would be a FOOL NOT to recommend the operation" and goes on to tell us more about it. I was DEVASTATED and my fiance BURST into tears IMMEDIATELY.
ALL the way home it was phone call after phone call to everyone to tell them the news and after EVERY call I was in tears.
Now this is THE WORST news you could EVER imagine getting in your life as a parent.
Just needed to vent about it and you guys that ARE parents or soon to be (KEN ) I hope you guys NEVER have to hear any news like this.
