Thats makes total sense...now what about the bolts in the slanted position? There are several anchor bolts like that all over the building...are they alright?

Those bolts should be fine. They dont look like they have much, if any load on them aside from holding the plate in place. There might be some excess sheer stress on the bolts because of thier angle, but most of the load is just vertical, I dont think you have anything to worry about with the bolts either...

thaught i'd bring this back... just wondering what you ended up doing...
I've been thinking about this a lot recently...

I might suggust to you that if you can, you have them put a plate underneth the side of the support beam that's not on top of the metal plate if it's not too late. It shouldn't be too hard for them to do.

the only reason why i suggust that, is this: Steel can handle much higher compressive and tensile forces then concrete. The extra metal plate there is to help distribute some of the stress on the concrete, so that the support beam will not start to sink into the concrete. Since it's about 1/2 way on the metal plate, you will most likely have nothing to worry about, which is why we had said not to worry about it. But thinking about it again, just reminded me that you might want to get another plate installed underneth it just incase...
