The number of cars that actually are able to use all of their 500 whp are miniscule compared to the cars that can't even put 300 to the ground without burning through third gear. But yeah, 300whp for a J isn't something that's impossible to think of. Hell, the newest releases have 300 from the factory.
The reliability point is spot on though, however the powerband on those engines isn't exactly what the Honda scene is used to having. The Civic and Integra crowd are used to high revving, zippy little motors. The J isn't that at all! Compared to say, a B18, the J is like a big block chevy. It has a ton of power, but it's just laid out in a dramatically different way than the B's, D's, and K's.
