if thats the case I should just remove my viper alarm and leave my doors and windows open because since using deterrents wont stop a thief then why bother to try

Well that's over the top. But at the same time if you're that afraid you prob shouldn't put too much info out there. Relatively speaking my car's a POS but I still put $$$ into it and wanna keep it how it is. Sad reality.

This is basically what I had in mind. I think with with a little work it could, umm, work.

              http://www.preludepower.com/forums/s...d.php?t=207480

This way you can close up MR theads while still giving new people some eye candy to get some ideas off of. As long as people participate and follow the rules, it might work. Just gotta keep the BS posts outta it.

well, my point that i forget to add is that its that all depends on what kind of security you have to protect your car...

5 min between posts? Hopefully you only want that applied to "Newcomers".

100+ post requirement is fair. I've seen much more "harsh" ruling on forums and people go along with it.
                  Yes.

I propose moderation status for the first 50 posts and require 5 minutes between posts. After 50 posts have been reached, moderators can approve the account to a beginner member which will let them post every 1-2 minutes, and still not have access to anything but the beginner forum. To graduate to a full member allowing to access the classifieds section, members rides, must have either another 50 or another 100 posts.

0-50 posts: Moderation Status (5 min post intervals, only beginner section access)
51 posts: Beginner Member (1-2 min post intervals, only beginner section access and off topic access)
150 posts: Full member status (allows full board access with passwords to classifieds and member section)

I see too many people double posting, spam posting, and putting stupid shit like "Yo nice car" on 3 threads in a row, and repeating 'advice' that 3 other posts before them had already said. Hopefully this will discourage stupid posts like that.

5 minutes between posts is off topic and a stupid idea...it will do nothing towards solving any issue so why is it even being brought up? But I'll comment since it keeps being brought up. I hit the 30 second post limit a few times because I open all the topics that interest me in firefox, so I end up with 10+ tabs. I then start a reply, sometimes I have three replies going, often I'm researching a bit more before I finish...sometimes I'm doing my best to not be an asshole so I leave one and come back.

So sometimes I end up submitting replies for two different threads...having to wait 5 minutes is pointless and will do nothing but annoy efficient folks like me

As to the MR thing...I like the idea of upping the post count for it, and adding a password. But even that won't stop the thieves

It sucks because I draw upon the MR threads for ideas but at the same time it puts them out there.

Hell I've gotten one idea recently not from what I have seen, but from what I HAVEN'T seen, and many from what I DO see on others cars. It gives you a place to visually see what works and what doesn't.

Would be awesome to make it so you can post all your info there...but somehow your SN is hidden, like how ebay hides bidders. May help keep people from putting where you are with your car.

Of course the other option is like I do...none of you know where I live...because I won't tell you. Unless I buy something from you then you'll have my address But I try to buy from reputable members...but that doesn't always happen. I've never understood when people just blast away their location.

I get you like where you live but leave your ego aside and leave your location in obscurity...maybe we should take that off too. Instead of pinpoint where you live...make it regional location.

Now the other issue is members with a lot of work done who want to show off but low post count fill the gallery section with their rides.

i didnt read all posts in the thread but it's sort of a stretch to connect your MR to theft.

California is the worst for honda theft and yet most Cali cb7tuners have MR threads but not one of us has had our cars stolen. I recall someone had their car stolen and didnt even have a MR.

Seems like an unnecessary witch hunt

If you guys don't care about losing members, then why are there rules against bashing noobs?

And Akon, I mean Yaw, why would you make a thread about being worried someone is going to steal your car and mention you deleted your MR? To a thieve, that would sound like your car actually had anything worth stealing. So now, they have even more incentive to steal shit.

Your car looks like crap(from the pic in your sig). If someone is going to steal something from your car, they're going to do it because they see it on the street and not on some forum.

Your shit is more likely to get broken into by bums and common thieves than it would be by someone online.

If you're all worried about theft then you should protect your cars. Buy an alarm, use the club, kill switches, do whatever you think is needed to protect your investment.

Making a post requirement for the MR thread to like 100 posts is not necessary in my mind.

Our cars are still on the top 10 most wanted cars lol. So its not just the MR thread thats causing theft. They're simply desirable to thieves.

I think there should be a password that's required to get into the MR thread, just as in the classifieds, instead of it being public as it is now. But a notice and warning, something like, post at your own risk. Something that'll inform people and make them be aware that there are people out there.

In the end its up to the member whether he/she wants to include what in their MR thread.

if they really want it, they'll take it.

x2 that you dont need to make a thread that you took down your MRT. Makes people want to see what you have in your car.

The little stuff I do have on it I consider rare and valuable. But you're right... esp in my neighborhood. I'm doing the little I can do though.
