$800 for an AK? No thanks unless it's an Arsenal build. There are restrictions to semi autos like the AK. As in NJ I think you're limited to a low cap mag and some extras are restricted.

For $800, buy an AR15.

It stays locked up in a fireproof gun safe.
And my dad just ordered the XDm .40 and told me it would be "our little secret" from mom haha. He told me if I got good with the .45 I could have the XDm too and use that one for matches. That's a few years down the road though, I have a lot to learn.

That's real good. There are a few home defense handgun safes which are (apparently) easier to open.

Why didn't you go 9mm if you want to get into competitions? 9mm is cheaper If you had gotten a Glock you could have done both IDPA and GSSF.

Me and my father have toyed with the Idea of reloading for a long time, and I think we may start. We kept all the brass from my first box of 50 rounds, so he might be getting a reloader soon. And I want to shoot competitions, but by the time I get good enough that the caliber matters, I'll be able to buy the 9mm.

I mean, It's going to be years before I am good enough to say "I could shrink that group with a 9mm"

I'm not terrible with it now, but I'm definitely not great.

That's like saying he's going to teleport himself to mars. He'd first have to reestablish the AWB (assault weapons ban - a laugh in itself). Anything more than that is not going to happen in a 4 year term.

In the past few years we (the pro second amendment) have overturned a 30 year law in DC allowing handguns and we're now allowed to carry in national parks. Obama's not going to step on our toes especially now. He can't reform healthcare and ban firearms of any sort at the same time.
