    DJ MAGAZINE TOP 100 2003
    TRANCE TRIUMITIVE TAKE TOP SPOTS

The Dutch uber lord has done it again, beating off tough opposition to retain his coveted title as the No.1 DJ in the World. TIËSTO is once more Lord of the trance and the king of the dancefloor. Now in it’s tenth year, the definitive DJ chart has yet again thrown up some surprises, some shocks and some undeniable trends. Trance is on top yet again and there seems to be no stopping the big room sound

There’s been an amazing response to this year’s Top 100 poll. The vote was almost 50% up on last year’s total, with an incredible 61,529 of you taking the time out to participate in the only poll that matters. Outside the UK we received votes from a staggering 120 different countries (there are only 193 in the world). Aside from the established countries for dance music, we received votes from territories as far flung as Moldaova, Bosnia, The Fiji Islands, Papua New Guinea and Iran. Proof yet again that dance music is a truly global phenomenon.

Commenting on this year’s poll DJ magazine editor Lesley Wright said:
‘Mental - that's the only way to describe this year's Top 100. Voting went through the roof and exceeded all our expectations. While scare-mongers bleated on about the death of dance music, we received a record-breaking number of votes from 120 countries around the world.

What kind of message does that send out? It's a massive two-fingered salute to those who have been desperate to bury this scene and the music we love. Dance music and the people who love it ain't going anywhere.

With 19 new entries, six re-entries and 2 non-movers this really is the only chart that counts. TIËSTO has reclaimed his crown and for another year and can boast that he is the No.1 DJ in the world. With PAUL VAN DYK and ARMIN VAN BUUREN leapfrogging over SASHA and DIGWEED into the Top 3, it’s a triple whammy for the European purveyors of trance. With FERRY CORSTEN rising three places to No.6 and PAUL OAKENFOLD and JUDGE JULES holding firm, we can safely say that the sounds of trance and hard dance are still dominating clubland in a big way.

The public’s penchant for the tougher sound is further evident from the highest new entry from production wizards GABRIEL & DRESDEN, and highest climber TALL PAUL who climbs 57 places to No. 19.

The ‘prog’ set remain pretty steadfast with SASHA & DIGWEED still well up there. DANNY HOWELS, SANDER KLEINEBERG, STEVE LAWLER, PETE TONG, SATOSHI TOMIIE, HERNAN CATTANEO, TIMO MAAS and DAVE SEAMAN hold their positions in the higher regions of the chart. Another year and another sizeable leap for young gun and one to watch JAMES ZABIELA, who just misses out on a Top 10 ranking settling for an impressive No.11 position.

House legends ERICK MORILLO, DERRICK CARTER, MASTERS AT WORK and ROGER SANCHEZ reap the rewards of sticking to their guns and maintain respectable chart positions whilst other house heads, Radio 1 duo LOTTIE and YOUSEF experience a considerable drop.

Techno has also shown strongly his year. CARL COX, FERGIE, RICHIE HAWTIN, SLAM and DAVE CLARKE more or less remain in the same positions as last year with LAURENT GARNIER, JEFF MILLS and SVEN VATH all climbing to very satisfactory spots. ANDY C is the only Drum & Bass DJ in the chart, whilst breaks have faired well proving it can no longer be just a back room sound. ADAM FREELAND rises 46 places while THE PLUMPS are up 23 and HYBRID rise 39. James Lavelle also enters as the second highest new entry at 44.

FATBOY SLIM remains in the Top 50 whilst there is no sign of chart topping acts such as THE CHEMICAL BROTHERS, BASEMENT JAXX, AUDIO BULLY’S or X-PRESS2. Chart success obviously doesn’t equal a dedicated club following.

"For me, once again, it's a crown on my work, I feel extremely honoured that the fans worldwide keep on supporting me. To me that is the motivation that will keep me entertaining and surprising the fans in the future" TIESTO – World’s No.1 DJ 2003

Tiesto reigns for another year. But the winds of change have definitely been wafting through the Top 100 DJs chart and there are strong signs of potential new contenders and rising stars. Anything can change and it usually does. What surprises will 2004 bring?

i like progressive trance, not no crazy crap...gimme a suggustion....
What makes me laugh about forums, is that no matter how much you try to help someone, they dont take the advice. Go ahead and do it the hard way.

You got to respect what you drive, and appreciate what you have, making the best of what you got. and if that means putting CAI, HID's, a phat stereo system, and a idiot in the drivers seat...then so be it!

        Retro!

        Hater

I love nooBs...They make me look good
