you don't know that it doesn't belong to anyone, or that the owner didn't leave it unlocked accidentally - or that it was, in fact, stolen.

Agreed. Nothing has been stolen... yet. And I can say myself that I haven't considered such things myself.

Thinking about something and actually acting on it are two completely different things, though. EVERYONE has thought about doing something wrong. Nobody is unable to contemplate such a thing. It's the ability to choose NOT to do the wrong thing that sets us apart, though. Those that do bad things, and those that don't.
