What's with this obsession of removing AC and/or cruise control?

Uh..you've never been in a Civic with even a low budget suspension setup have you? They will out handle any CB with a mild setup easily.

    OP:

Engine bays look cleaner without the "amenities". The car weighs less and the engine can rev freer and it frees up power. Not to mention, they get in the way when doing other shit.

I've been in FL during the summer, I've been in AZ during the summer, I've been in Cali during the summer and I've lived on E. WA my entire life...I haven't ever needed AC or PS, ever. I drove across the country, twice. I didn't need CC then.

Out of the 1.5 years I had my car stock, I don't think I ever used my AC. Although, the only time I wish I did have it is during the winter so I can defog my windows. A cracked open window solves that problem though.

    Your amenities aren't my amenities.

BTW Scott, your AZ heat ain't got shit on FL humidity.

Sorry, done both. By your estimations you haven't been in AZ heat. Try 130* and 80% humidity. Yes, that is what I lived with being next to a lake that vaporizes in the summer time during monsoon season. I have actually been in both. FL sucks, but so does AZ. I have lived here for 30 years. Please don't attempt to tell me about what summers are like. P.S. relative humidity is NOT a linear relationship, so 80% humidity @ 110 -120 > 80% @ 100.

I lack A/C because it stopped working, and with my dsm setup, it had to go anyway. PS left to be put in my old camo accord when it was my dd. CC left because I never used it and like the look of it gone.

It's called personal preference, and there is no explaining one peson's versus anothers.

          My experiences exactly.

I can certainly live with this explanation.
What irked me before were the statements that concluded that since we own 20 year old Accords, it automatically became reasonable and desirable to further dehumanize dated technology.

well it all just depends on where you live and how the weather conditions are there...i live in indy so weather isnt so bad here...all i have is p/s a/c is kinda pointless and waste gas when weather is always below 95...cruise control is nice to have when going far distances...makes life easier but also some what dangerous because it is easier to fall asleep at the wheel..it also makes your engine bay look alot cleaner...

Daily driver w/no A/C, P/S is just silly IMO. ESP in NYC. I see Dominicans with their wind up cars straining with the wheel trying to parallel park. People all hot in the summer stuck in traffic just looking GOOFY. In a Honda Accord LMAO. I can understand if it's a full out race car with some real work, but if your car is basically stock it's just dumb. P/S and A/C weigh like 40# altogether and make ur car unbearable in the heat and dangerous in the rain.

              Chill.

My car is a little grocery getter. It's a POS as is. It would downright undriveable without P/S and A/C.

                  an engine bay indicates what?

it should be an engine, not all this mumble jumbo wiring and charcoal canister crap.

You make very valid points about the A/C with the fogging up the windows in rain/humidity and very hot/humid summer weather. You factor this when you have family/wife in the car and going on road trips and you feel embarrassed at times and/or like you're driving a cheap car.

Therefore, I agree that working A/C for a daily driver is a good idea, especially a safety feature in that foggy window condition. I've been in situations where I could barely see, not a good idea. However, you try to rationalize because it does not happen much.

I think cruise control is more up to the driver. I feel that CC can be an excuse to fall asleep at the wheel, as it takes the work/fun out of the driving (like an auto). I'll stick to my manual tranny and no CC for that reason. It is nice where many cops reside and you want to lock your speed.

On project cars, I have learned I very much like simplicity. Project cars require more attention and work under the hood, so anything to make your work easier/more efficient is a good idea IMO. I enjoy working on my white project, as the engine bay is simple, I can get to the components right away with minimal removal of others in the way. Removing some luxuries also cuts down on things that can fail. Realistically, I will not drive my project car as much as my DD car, but when I do drive it will be my DD for spring/summer weather 24-7 for this period. I even plan to drive it on trips up to 5-8 hrs one-way, anything further I'd probably use my DD.

Using CC is also good for improving MPG, and not making people think you are an idiot trying to race on the highway as your speed fluctuates. I use my CC CONSTANTLY. In fact, I think I have worn out the diaphragm in the control module. LOL!

I don't really care what you can understand. I use it all the time and have never fallen asleep. Plus, it is easier on my right knee, and it is more comfortable, saves gas and allows to me cruise at a lower indicated speed and still get there in the same amount of time, because nearly everybody who uses their foot on a long trip has speed fluctuations.

In my experience, using CC makes no difference to my level of sleepiness or the likelihood of me falling asleep.

CC puts me to sleep too, but my bouncy suspension keeps my kidneys awake.
