I hate to say it, but Chrysler sucks balls. They didn't in the past... Hell, they invented the Minivan. The old vans are actually pretty damn solid (though my 90 Voyager had a very leaky engine... but my parents weren't exactly the best with maintenance... my dad would buy a new car and NEVER change the oil...)

The 300 platform is solid. It's good... but too little, too late.
They dropped the Neon, and replaced it with something uglier, oafier, and totally unappealing... rather than just addressing the reliability issues and overall "cheapness" that the Neon presented. The Neon wasn't far from being a GOOD car...

It's sad to see Chrysler go... but I fear there is no hope. I don't think I have a Chrysler dealership in the family anymore... I think I just have a used car lot in the family now

          i just put a transmission in a 2005 about a month ago...

of course i must mention there was no history of the fluid being changed, and the fluid that was visable was black

Yeah, failure due to abuse and improper maintenance cannot be attributed to the quality of the product or engineering! The day a car company makes a totally idiot-proof car will be the day the automotive industry collapses... as there won't be any competition! Honda is probably as close as you're going to get... Hondas take an insane amount of abuse and keep going! (take a look at the MR forum... if those were Escorts and Cavaliers, they'd have committed suicide long ago!)

How many miles were on that one?

So far, we haven't had any auto tranny trouble with our Honda's and that includes the 1998-2002 Accord V6, the most notorious of the notorious. Of course, I am fairly religious about fluid changes too. Even our 2006, which will not be gracing us with its presence much longer, is getting ready to have the second change at 36,000. I have learned that they are not forgiving of neglect, although they take that better than people give them credit for.

Having said that, Chrysler and Ford both have histories of tranny failures that make Honda's look like blips. It seems the only ones that have generally consistently supplied good trannies is GM. One thing I have never encountered a lot of is GM tranny failures. Well, except for the T5 in the 3rd gen F body.
