If I owned property in Canada, could I register and insure a car there?
Try to pretend you dont even want the car. Do what you have to get a DL/citizenship, buy the land set up utilities and a mailbox. Live there for a month or so, then decide, one day, that you want a Skyline. Buy it. Import to Canada, register/insure, etc. Leave it there and drive it there. Find out how long you can be in the states with is and spend that much time in the Us with it, then take it back. Come back here for awhile, maybe during the winter, then go back there for the summer. Spend however long there, and come back in the skyline for however long then go back. Repeat.
Theyre AWD arent they? Find a nice dirt road or something, real late at night and drive it across. Dont get pulled over and just keep it in a garage here. Drive it when you want. If you get pulled over, you have the proper paperwork. If anyone asks, you're visiting your home in NJ.
The only thins i could see that would mess this up if you have to get some form of a stamp, sticker or "temp tag" so to speak for your visit in the Us with the skyline. then youre screwed. Like when you leave canadian border in the skyline, they give you a window sticker that "expires in ___ days and if youre caught , in the US, with the car after such date, youre in trouble.
I thought you could import a JDM car so long as it was at least 20 or 25 years old...?
ya except japan is recycling them so fast ur lucky if you can find the one you want. is it 20 or 25 years? if its 20 i should start looking for a clean 90 integra XSI then
come to hink of it why is the skyline the most sought after JDM vehicle. i mean jeebus christ i guarantee you can roll around a toyota levin (AE111 which never came to the states) and no one would bat an eye. just get it tinted and ppl wont even know its RHD
wat im saying is if people can get illegal skylines into the country through customs and then be dumb enough to get caught in the streets why not get something a little less suspicious.
