sorry in advance for not having pictures i will get some tomorrow once i finish what im working on ... and so everyone knows this is on a 99 astro LS
well went and traded my set of rota wheels i have been sitting on for a M1 15 memphis audio sub in ported box (i will be building a better box shortly) with a soundstream true 600 watt amp and a kenwood CD player ... after making the hour trip out to meet 91dx(r+p) at a mcdonalds i lock my keys in my van so now my wife and father both have spare keys but no way they can drive a hour to where im at ... so i get a phone book from mcdonalds and call a local lock smith to open it up ... now with that out of the way i head back home with my new system ...
Once i get back to town i stop by radioactive audio shop to pick up a dash kit, wiring plug, amp kit, and various high grade connectors ... then its off to the parts store where i pic up some vacume line to fix my AC problem which is done in no time ...
now its time to start my audio install first i remove the factory delco tape deck which is easy to access since i already had the dog house and consol out of the way now i find it is being held in place by 2 screws and a piece of aluminum the factory pieces are nowhere to be found but i am in luck the plastic on the sides where the aftermarket bin clips into place is still intact so i slide in the bin and its a perfect fit ... now i begine running amp kit wires ... i start by locating the hood latch cable and pushing the power cable through the firwall and out it comes right beside the battery i then cut the power cable about 6 inches off the battery and install the fuse i will be mounting the fuse tomorrow once everything is confirmed working probably to the sheet metal right in front of the battery ... now back inside the cab i remove the kick board if thats what they are called beside the driver seat where i find a black squared tube with wires running through it ... by mashing this together and using a small flat head i pry it open and insert the power cable and snap it back shut and reinstall the kickboard ... from there i simply tuck the wire under the side trim running to the back ... now with the power wire run on the driver side i move to the passenger side where i remove the kick boards at passenger door and sliding door and run the RCA and remote wire under the dash then under the carpet since there are no other wires on this side ... after running both to the back i reinstall kick boards and wires are run ... by this time its getting dark so i come in the house to wire up the CD player to harness plug which is a snap all you have to do is match the colors and use solid crimps (was considering saulder but will be switching to an indash DVD shortly down the road) after getting everything crimped and taped i go back outside and plug it all up and presto it sounds great even with out the sub hooked up.
Tomorrow ill finish hooking up the amp and sub by installing the ground cable which i think i will bolt to one of the rear seat floor brackets since i dont have a rear seat and dont plan on having one anytime soon and i will prolly mount the amp under the middle seat to hide it from view and make it harder to steal i will also be getting 4 L brackets to hold the sub inplace till i get a custom fiberglass box made ...
again sorry for no pics ill get some of the finished product tomorrow ... and i would like to say thanks to matrix for helping me solve my vacume issues and raycer for his input in another thread on where to run the power cable through the firewall
