With your budget, the type of car you want...you're asking for a headache.
the smartest thing ive seen posted.

Deev. your a cool guy. funny and all. but if your looking to get a BMW, your gonna be paying to get things fixed if something breaks. ive had a couple friends who owned BMWs that loved them. just hated that repair bill. unless your willing to work on it yourself and have the time(which i doubt you will due to your 90-100hr work weeks) then stray away from it.

a $8k car with luxury AND performance and its not FWD? thats a hard one in my mind. i say some research on the cars your thinking about and find out what their problems are form the factory. and which ever one has the simplest problem, look up if they have forums for them. look around those forums for any issues that people encountered and fixed themselves with a small amount of time.

i understand you being picky about the next car. i would be too. and its your car so you have the right to be picky about it. but if your gonna by a car that you dont want to spend too much money on maintenance but cant fix it youself, then you might end up buying another car that will just waste away in the yard because of a small problem you dont have time to fix...

The only downside is that I'm probably making more money now than I will with my doctorate...

I know you don't want FWD, but for $8K you could put together a 13 second 2k2-2k3 Maxima. For another $1000 you could get coilovers on it.

FWD/RWD doesn't really make a huge diff if you're just cruising.

Not the fastest in the turns, but it is pretty capable (have to be able to dodge the assassins afterall), it scoots and you can't beat the pull or sound of a V12. Plus, the S600 had a much upgraded interior over the lower level S classes which frankly are built like a 1983 Sentra.

Just hope to fuck it doesn't break.
You know you want this deev. Shit, I know I WANT this.

This thread is quite old, now. CB7man has been digging for gold.

Find me an $8000 NSX in nice shape, and I'll buy it now.

I have my own business already.

                I don't want a Maxima. I don't want a project. I don't want FWD.

The 6000SEL has been one of the only suggestions here that has actually stuck with me. It'd be hell to repair, but nice nonetheless when it worked!

Right now, I've decided to continue restoring my 86 Accord hatchback. No new car will be happening anytime soon.

                  Why not an E39?

The 540i/6's are nice. They seem to be in your price range, too.

That was another one I was seriously considering.

I'm not getting ANYTHING anymore. I'm sticking to what I have. The CB7 is going to be the fun car, the CA5 is going to be the restoration project, and the Fit is the work car. I won't have a "fancy car to impress the ladies", unfortunately. I'll just have to do it with my own charm.

i would go with a bmw or audi... both cars very expensive for maintenance or to be fixed, but hey if you have the money, why not enjoy these European cars.
