It's all about time, cost, and reliability. If you buy another car, you have no idea what kind of work was done to it. Julie (girl friend) got her 86 supra with only 73K miles on it. Turns out the kid who sold it was a dumb idiot and something happened to #6 connecting rod. The piston was hitting the cylinder head and it wound up having to be rebuild. It's all torn down in my garage. That was 3 grand for hers. When ever buying a used car there is NO way to tell what could happen.

Am I saying not to get a new car? No. But be very careful when your on a budget. Getting a Ferrari for 10K might be a steal, but with all the problems it has it's probably not worth it. Buying a civic for 10K however, everything better well be in superb condition / better than from the factory. Fixing up your CB could possibly save you some money AND improve your reliability. There is no reason why any CB can't be fixed and driven across the country without any problems. I've blown up 2 motors so far. One wasn't my fault but the other was. It's STILL cheaper for me to fix my car and I can get it going with a turbo for less than 3, with forged internals.

Your car can be reliable, it just depends on if you have all the funds to do it all at once or not.

Thats just it. In order for the CB to be as reliable and nice as something newer would be, i would need more than $4k all at once. Granted i could do alot to it with $4k, but not everything.

I know to be watchful and if i dont get a good feeling from the buyer or the car, i wont buy. I know numoerous mechanics, so ill have them check it out.

You dont want a steal, but at the same time you dont wanna pay alot, only to get ripped off.
