    Is stealing wrong

Everyone agrees stealing is wrong. Now, suppose if every time you stole something, that object would reappear right away.

Say you're neighbor had a nice car and left his garage door open. You walk in, steal the car, now in the morning you both have separate cars. Would stealing still be bad, as long as no one was hurt?

I agree, it wont happen, so it doesnt matter.

Although, the idea is a cool one. Theft would no longer be an issue, just a hassle.

If you take the car, but it's still there... then you didn't really steal it. In terms of the neighbor's property, you might as well have just bought an identical car. He still has his car, so while you "stole" it, it still remains in his possession.

However, you are now driving a car you didn't pay for. You have acquired a car that has NEVER been paid for, in any sense (production or sale). For that reason, you ARE stealing... but from the car manufacturer, dealer, and anyone that profits from the production and sale of a new or used vehicle. Nobody was ever compensated in order for that car to exist.

A much more realistic use of this concept is downloading music, movies, programs, etc... I could download a song from your computer. Did I steal it from you? No. It's still there on your computer, but now it's on mine too! But suppose you bought that song legitimately on itunes... You paid for it, I did not. Now two copies of that song exist from a single purchase. My "stealing" that song doesn't hurt you in any way. But my stealing of that song just cost the artist, label, itunes, etc... whoever gets a cut... whatever that one song was worth to them. If everyone does this millions of times, as it's common practice and requires no supernatural cloning ability, considerable profits are lost. Significant damage is done. Because the stolen song was never paid for, and is fully functional, it will never BE paid for.
