usual stuff, smell oil, check for rebuilt title, check body lines, if the car is clean inside, its probably got a clean engine, even though a replaced radiator n water pump is just a red flag for overheating(edit: Valve cover crack it open when the owners not looking!!!lol)

my best way to check the engine health, is to check the exhuast, put your finger in the muffler, if its gray, the engine is healthy, grey -black its fair, if its oily black, engine has been abused as in poor health.
Do you know anyone that can get you a carfax/vehicle history? that way at least you'll know if its been in any accidents or anything before you buy it.
