    Tech Heads: Crashing HP Laptop

A good friend of mine asked me to solve his crashing laptop issue so I wiped and reformatted the hard drive, loaded the Windows Vista Home Premium, and it's still crashing within a minute of logging in. However, it doesn't seem to crash in safe mode. I'm definitely no computer genius but I've reformatted my fair share of hard drives and installed many an operating system and this has me stumped. Halp?

    Is it the BSOD?

    Probably hardware failures.

I did see the blue screen of death advising me of a crash dump. Any ideas what sort of hardware failure it could be? I've got very, very little experience with hardware, unfortunately.

It's a Pavillion G60. The "Computer" properties says it's got 2814 MB of RAM and an AMD Athlon Dual-Core QL-62 2.00 GHz processor.

The BSOD flashes so quickly that I can't read it. I'll grab my digital camera and try to snap a picture real quick.

Okay, that's twice now that I've started the laptop in normally and, instead of the BSOD, the computer just restarts immediately.

                  Try switching harddrives.

I'll try my spare hard drive in it, but first I'm gonna try installing drivers. Before crashing the last time, Windows flashed up something about possibly needing drivers for acceleration, so I'll try that first. I appreciate it.

All right. I managed to photograph the BSOD.

Fans are probably clogged with dust, it's overheating, then crashing. Try clearing the fans with compressed air, if that doesn't work, you'll have to pull the keyboard and possibly the motherboard (fun fun) to get to the fans, depending on their location.

Also, what is the model number for the laptop?

EDIT: Just looked up that stop number, seems to be related to audio devices. Look and see if you can disable the onboard sound in the BIOS, and see if it still blue screens.

Konigstiger and cvc7chris: I just tried running it from my laptop's hard drive and it wouldn't even start. It blue screened before even attempting a start up.

foamypirate: The BIOS doesn't seem to mention anything about sound so now I'm gonna hit Google hard for the location of the fans and how to access them.
