The fact that a song like that has any popularity is sad, though. That is not quality music. Hell, I watched the entire video, and I still don't really know how to do the Stanky Legg... They keep telling me to do it, but I don't know how! Tell me, horrible "rappers", how do I do this wonderful dance?

When in doubt, just do the washing machine... nobody will be able to tell the difference anyway. That dance can work with almost anything!

In Soulja Boy's defense, most of you think that its stupid kids like encourage these type of songs but February 2008 while at conference for my job the DJ played 'crank dat' and all the middle age people(most white americans) were on the dance floor doing his dance I'm still shocked to this day so if EVERYONE stop supporting these wackass songs then maybe these idiots will stop making them

They're simple. The music is simple, the dance is simple... people don't have to think. It's the McDonalds of the music industry. It's not good, but it's quick and easy, and widely accepted.

I take that back because there are some rappers that are really good such as (MF) DOOM. But i just dont respect artists who put out this crap just to make money and get famous. I listen to metal and there are bands that are doing the same thing these dudes are doing. Which is putting out shitty songs to make money. "Real" music to me involves an instrument and some sort of talent.

I agree. When your success hinges on a gimmick, or on who you know, then you're not a musician. Maybe a hell of a businessman, marketer, or salesman... but not a talented musician.

And even though rappers don't "play an instrument", the ability to flow, write powerful and catchy lyrics, and the ability to convey buttloads of personality over a beat is to me just as impressive as someone that can shred out a blazing guitar solo. A rapper that writes his own beats is even more impressive. Most good rappers have a better understanding of traditional music than their image suggests.

Akon is corny as hell to me which makes his resemblance that much more unpleasant, but there is a market for his music and he has capitalized on that. Whether I agree or not I definitely respect his hustle.

People cry about boring ass rappers not being the ones in the limelight... again like I said I have heard some really boring awful rappers from the people who complain about songs like this being on the radio. To say Soulja Boy isn't talented when he makes his own beats + dances and writes his own lyrics is dumb as hell, IMO. And I don't even like his music that much.
