Did you fill out a w9? If you didn't, then you don't really have a job and you don't have to worry about anything.

I think your confusing it with if you make less then xx amount its free to file for federal.

I believe anytime you earn wages and pay taxes, you have to file.

The employer normally just holds a portion of your wages (~24%) and then during tax time the IRS actually calculates what you owe, they take what you owe from the held wages... if more was held than needed they send the reminder back in the form of a tax refund.

In your case your employer is still going to claim your work to the IRS, but when they calculate your taxes you have no account, so what ever the balance is your just going to get a bill for that amount. which could be subsantially large

my advice to you, (this happend to a friend), store about 25% of your wages, and wait for the bill to come during tax time next year.

Are you turning in time slips/sheets? Are theire any records of you being an employee of his? My father is a landscaper and in oregon to be a landscaper with employess you have to be bonded, insured, liscenced, and have some kind of workers comp, if you dont have any of those than you dont have a liscence and therefore are working "illegally" so if your employer doesnt have any of that stuff than really your not an employee and dont have to pay taxes from his personal checks

^ this is true, but if you assume this and your wrong, its all on you.

i had a friend work in a saw mill, he got a personal check every week and thought, sweet under the table!... come tax time his boss turns in the nessesary information and my friend gets a bill for taxes on every one of those personal checks he got.

either confront your boss and find out, are you illegal (under the table), or legal and personally responsable for saving money to pay taxes.

be careful if your illegal, like metioned you are not really protected by insurance or anything
