    Anyone else have ADHD?

I've had ADHD (Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) for a long time, but I recently went through 10 hours of varying testing (vocal to writing) to see if I really did have it and if i had other learning disabilities or disorders.

Needless to say I was diagnosed with moderate to severe adhd. Now I know that most people these days all have some symptoms of adhd, but some are a lot worse then others. I wasn't able to focus on anything and my days would become almost useless, because of it.

I started on medication, adderall, and it helps a lot but supresses my apettite alot! i'm hoping that in time it will go away and it'll become easier to eat, because right now im almost never hungry.

anyone else taking meds for adhd having the same difficulties?

Back before ADHD was invented, one would merely join a dance class or go hiking. Now we take drugs to suppress our energy. I have issues with this. Most people with "ADHD" are incredible parallel thinkers, use this ability instead of suppressing it, please.

my .02 and I don't mean any harm, this is merely my opinion.

My third grade teacher told my parents she thought I had too much energy. School tested me and refered me to a doctor, who tested more. He decided I had mild to severe ADHD. I was put on all kinds of different meds, started with Ritalin, and the list goes on from there. By the time I graduated HS the same doctor that diagnosed me said I had "grown out of having ADHD."

Seems anymore every other kid has been diagnosed with ADHD or ADD. So many doctors just throw medications at the kids until something calms them down.

I don't doubt that ADHD is real... but I think that it is severely overdiagnosed and overmedicated.

I have a lack of focus as well. It's difficult to focus on anything in this world, honestly. The internet CREATES a lack of focus, because you can do so much so quickly. The internet generation lives with "ADHD" based on how they are used to going about their lives.

I mean, when you wanted to look something up before... you went to the dictionary or encyclopedia, flipped to the correct page, and spent 5 minutes reading (well... hopefully not the dictionary... but the encyclopedia, at least!)
Now, you just go to Google, and get your answer in .0342 seconds. Then you do something else.

In fact, while you're getting that answer, you're carrying on conversations with 3 people, buying shoes online, looking at porn, listening to music, and fending off various advertisements that manage to get past your ad blocker.

Is it real? Yes. Is it overdiagnosed? Certainly. Doctors are improperly educated on the disorder. Even more influential are the parents... Their children are unfocused, out of control... they MUST have this ADHD thing that the TV talks about! They won't take no for an answer, so the doctors don't give them no... they cave in and prescribe meds.
The pharmaceutical companies also push the existance of the disorder. They make money when their meds are taken. LOTS of money.

If you can't focus, do something to expend that pent up energy. If you can't focus, MAKE yourself focus... you can. It's like any other skill... you have to work at it, and if you don't use it, you lose it.
Now, can you actually have a disorder? It's possible. But I'll be amazed if more than one person that has posted in this thread (if that) actually has a true ADHD disorder.

Depression is another one... same deal.
My friend's wife is a bitch. She's unhappy with her life. She's fat, she has no direction. She has no passion. And she refuses to give a damn about anything that matters to her husband. She works for a gynocologist. A snatch doctor. This snatch doctor prescribed antidepressants for her... which make her less of a bitch. Does she need meds? No. Meds will fuck you up. But it "works", so she takes them. Of course, the snatch doctor was qualified to diagnose and medicate depression, right?

I'm going to burn out as a psychologist... I can see it coming.

I should be receiving my full results within a few days from the testing. I'll be interested to see what tests i succeeded in and what i didnt. I had the final briefing a little while back from the results and thus the medication.

In college i did an extensive paper on ADHD and yes I agree with deev that it is an overdiagnosed disorder that doctors commonly place on kids, because its easy to medicate and provides an easy solution.

Do i know for sure that i have adhd? no, and i probably wont know ever for sure if i do or not.

ADD and ADHD, in my opinion, are an easy cop-out for schools and parents to calm down and "zombify" their otherwise perfectly normal children.

Also, in my opinion, those with ADD and ADHD have the ability to learn faster, whether it be apparent or not. Just because they get bored being spoonfed the same information does not make them any less able to learn. Just teach them faster!!!

I was diagnosed with ADD years ago, and they prescribed ritalin to me.
I took it a handful of times, and didn't see a difference in my train of thought, or ability to "pay attention". I got sooooooo bored in school, medicated or not.

Believe it or not, and I know some wont... the only thing that made school bearable for me, and gave me the ability to concentrate on one thing a bit easier was Cannabis.
Smoking before school made for a much more pleasant experience, and slowed my thought process down enough to where I was able to actually listen to the (otherwise) extremely boring first period Science teacher, without my mind wandering off and thinking of much more interesting, complex things.

Not to mention Cannabis is far safer than Ritalin or Aderal.

Do not medicate a child who simply thinks differently than others. Instead of making teachers' jobs easier, teach them how to teach properly, and the problem will be non-existent.

sadly I agree with phema weed would be a much safer perscription to calm someone down a bit than dealing with the side affects of ridalin and such. When I was taking my add meds I remember hearing about how if you took it for long enough you could go sterile and I stopped right after that, I dunno about everyone else but I would like to have kids someday when the times right.

Weed worked for him. It's not necessarily universal. Though it IS safer than just about any drug currently prescribed to combat ADHD/ADD

What I agree with is that the teaching style needs to change. As with my "information now" example, kids are currently living in a VERY fast paced world, where information is readilly accessible. To sit in a classroom and be lectured for 45 minutes at a time, it's a major slowdown in thought process. That they can't focus isn't necessarily the sign of a disorder... just a sign of how they absorb information.

I have some very close friends that have been diagnosed with ADHD. And yes, they are incredibly smart. Many of them are less "book smart", and more "real world smart". Most of them got lousy grades in school, but know more about my car than I do... because they focused. They had something that held their interest.

I'm not denying that the disorder exists... but I think the true disorder is fairly uncommon. However, statistics will show that a very large number of Americans have it! I wonder if it's as popular a diagnosis in other countries... I'll have to look that up. I won't, though. I'm doing a bunch of other things right now, and I've already forgotten. I must have ADHD!

I think teachers are overburdened. Kids should come to school ready to learn. I think that is a horrible way to scan a teacher's ability. Disicplining kids is the parent's job. Entertaining them should be mario's job.. lol. Thats why I took my gameboy to school...lol

*high five on the canni though* The most overrated and misunderstood drug in the world.
