1991 Transmission in a 94?

    1991 Transmission in a 94?

    Will this combination bolt up? I've been told the axles are different. I lost 5th gear on my transmission and I'm due to pick up another replacement soon.

    Just so happens that this one is out of a 91 LX. Question is will it fit in the engine bay of a 5th gen?

    Some adjustments may have to be made for mounting, but yes, it will fit. Just like you can put a 94 trans into a 91, you can do the opposite.

      the only difference i know about are a few plugs on the tranny sensors.

        i had a 93 ex tranny in my 91 lx no problem.

        only thing i can think of is senors if there is any. but for manual i would belive there wont' be any.

        as far as axles thing i highly doubt it. the suspension is from 1990 to 1997 all interchangeable

          5th gen trans in 4th gen you can tap
          4th gen trans in 5th gen the nothing lines up to tap

          I still havent had a chance to go home to get that trans for you.


          vss has a p/s or vac line or something on the fourth gen that the fifth will not need.. vss itself is interchangeable. Axles are the same.

            The 90-91 5 spd tranny is weak. 2nd gear synchro and mainshaft were redesigned for 1992. If you're 5 spd, I wouldn't recommend installing the tranny.

            If you're auto, swap to 5spd!

              huh? so thas why my 3rd gear went out on me? thats on my 91
