well think about it.. you have a quality factory paint job with no real problems at all and you are asking if you should respray over that quality paint with a cheaper one.. ummmmmm....

perhaps you should try and do a little thinking before making a thread like this..

The surface in which paint needs to adhere to(For a good finish) needs to be as smooth as possible. Clear coat will never bee as smooth as a car that has been sanded down.

All the Shitty Maaco jobs are coming from the people that bought the lowest package and didn't give any thought to preparation work and just sent it in too Maaco to get it done. Maaco is a business they're not going to spend 8 hours sanding down your car to perfection and painting it for 300 dollars.

It basically goes like this you either Do work or you pay the price.

maaco shops are all individually owned. the paint quality increases as you get a better package, as does the prep work. when you want the cheapest possible job you get the cheapest possible paint. if you want to save money, you skimp on prep. when they did my car they ran down the list of prep options and i was able to tell them what to do and what not to do. they sanded. they didnt fill in dings or dents. thats what i chose.

find a shop with a good reputation. look at their work. find out who their best painter is. dont skimp on the prep work. dont get the cheapest job. i got the second cheapest which isnt great but fine for me.

also it depends on what you want the car for. if your going to be driving it and parking it on the street then an expensive paintjob is a waste of money. cars exposed to elements and road conditions get damaged. its just how it works. if you want a trailer queen show car then avoid maaco.

and if your paint is still good then why repaint it? the factory honda paint in good condition is better than any but the best respray. trust me. if you want it to look better just get a good polish and wax.

from what i understand maaco only uses single stage paint so that means that the base coat and the clear clear are all in one

so no matter what you do or however well you lay it down it will never compare to a 2 stage paint job

                point blank

i've seen dozens of maaco jobs and not one has been even close to being good

i've seen guys paint their cars with a roller brush in their garage and they've looked better, no lie

not quite.. their cheapo paint jobs are single stage.. thats why they are cheap.. they DO have better quality multistage paint jobs, but they arent nearly as cheap for obvious reasons..

i love how people generalize all maaco shops too. some suck. some are good. the cheap jobs are just that. cheap jobs. but how well they are done makes a difference. the cheap paint is single stage. they have better paint for over 1000. and thats just the paint. i agree that if i was going to pay that much for paint id go to a higher end shop. but for a respray on a daily driver maaco isnt a bad idea. just do your research, and be sure the prep work gets done.
to me spending 2000 on a paintjob on a car thats going to get hit by stones, rain, hail, salt from the winter roads, and only get washed once a month is stupid. 500 for all the prep and paint at maaco for something that will last 4 or 5 years like mine has is just fine.

well really you should go over the process with your shop. Like door jambs fuel doors trunk lines hoods/fenders all that comes into play. Me personaly I dont like seeing awesome paint on the fenders and mismatched paint under the hood. Oh and btw some maacos do ok work. Me personally Id save up atleast 1.5k for a paint job. Get the engine pulled paint the bay. Get the dings and dents out. Realigne the body panels. THEN have it painted. WHy throw S2K Red on your accord if it looks crappy. Oh and even audi collision shops have poor quality find a reputabjle shopw.

I think the bad references in regard to single stage paint jobs comes from Maaco or other cheap places that compare. It might be surprising but I know for a fact that some cars were rolled off the assembly line with a factory single stage paint job.

Both single stage painting and clear and base stage painting have their distinct benefits, but to be honest I wouldn't say either is better than the other.

The lesson to be taken is that it's not what your spraying on your car that matters that much it's the prep work. Do it right and even the biggest idiot can come up with good results. Half ass the prep work and even the best sprayer can produce horrible results.

when you roll into maaco with an 18 year old car and say you want the cheapest job possible a lot of times theyll just assume you dont really care about the car and do a shitty spray job. let them know you want prep work and it wont always turn out like crap. then again your $250 paint job may cost you $750.
