Okay, I'll sum up by filling you in on the current situation. My wife's CB7 hit a deer a while back and I've been in the process of rebuilding everything. Everything was working out so that I could fix everything that was wrong and paint the car with the insurance payout until I broke an axle or something. Right now, I'm pretty much going to be out of money after the axle(s) so I'm gonna have to come up with the money to paint the car between the wife and me.
Before I go any farther, I need to ask a question. The passenger side axle is going to have to be replaced, but I'm thinking of only replacing that side. Whatever boot is at the outer (closest to wheel) end of the axle has like a 4" gash in it and inside of the boot is filled with dirt. It badly needs replacing but my understanding was that they could go half a life time like that with the only side effect being the noise. With the other one breaking out of no where, I'm kinda paranoid. I want to know first of all, how long can an axle go with the boot being that bad. I could afford to replace both axles, but the money is much needed elsewhere, see above. Having said that, I wanted to get you guys opinion on whether I should replace just the one or both.
Now for the paint stuff. I've decided that I'm just gonna get a list together call up the paint store and see how much everything is gonna cost. I'm gonna list the things that are on the tip of my brain but I have been up all night. Anything that I miss, add it in give me some info if applicable. Note: I'm looking for barely enough of everything and still stay safe.
paint-----gallon?
clear coat ----- ?quarts
sand paper ----- ?grit?, I'll be working with a 6" orbital sander and the rectangular jitter bug type.
Bondo ----- how much, it's got a good bit of dents
masking tape, paint stirrers, etc. ---- how much tape do I need.
